Phantom Firebomb

By Nickel, in X-Wing

I've got a tournament coming up, and am thinking of running this list. Whisper is the flanker while the other two keep them distracted. It has a lot of hit points, so I should be able to stay alive for a while. Thoughts?

Pilots

------

"Whisper” (42)

TIE Phantom (32), Rebel Captive (3), Fire-Control System (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Bounty Hunter (35)

Firespray-31 (33), Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)

Gamma Squadron Pilot (23)

TIE Bomber (18), Flechette Torpedo (2), Seismic Charges (2), Munitions Failsafe (1)

I would switch munition failsafe + anti-pursuit lasers for recon specialist. Even though Munitions might mean that you stress ships twice, recon specialist greatly increases the slave's survivability (also, APL on PS3 isn't that great since you miss out on PS1 and PS2 ships).

Anti-pursuit lasers isn't nearly as good as it seems. If your final position would clear the ApL ship but a third ship is there, you don't count as bumping the intermediate ship even if you don't move.

I agree, Recon Specialist is the best crew the Firespray can utilize. Being able to potentially use focus on attack dice and agility dice won't only make it more powerful on the offense, but it will, as stated before me, increase its survivability since it has such a low pilot skill.

I second dropping APL on firespray. Recon is a good add and so is seismic.

Thanks, everyone! I'm glad that there isn't too much wrong with this squad. Anti-pursuit lasers were on there because I didn't have enough points to really build it up and I had two points left over.

Another vote for Recon on the Hunter. Works wonders. As for the rest, Whisper is fine, but not a fan of the Bomber, and especially here. I think you need bulk or bodies, so either finding a point to fit two Academies or going for an Omicron would be better IMO. Remember to always keep a point with Whisper for initiative bid.

Why whisper when we can be so loud that we ECHO!!!-Echo-cho-o

...I'll go sit in the corner now XD

Echo is good against all other ships however he always fall to Whisper's higher pilot skill.

Battle Report

Match 1

I faced ABXXZ. On the first real combat round, I managed to get Whisper withing range one of the A-wing and took it out with one shot. The bomber shot his Flechette Torpedo at the B-wing and stripped a shield or two. The Firespray also shot at the B-Wing, but didn't do much damage. My opponent focused on the Firespray and took some of its shields. The next round we ended up in a furball. I focused on the B-Wing but it survived, and my opponent shot at my bomber and cloaked Phantom. The bomber took a few hits but Whisper was fine. Next, the bomber dropped a seismic charge before running around an asteroid. I miscalculated my movement dials, so the Firespray landed right on top of the bomb and Whisper ran into the back of him. Two of his ships also took a hit from the bomb. I was finally able to kill the B-wing, but the Firespray died shortly afterward. My bomber finished coming around the asteroid and barrel-rolled to be within Range 1 of the side of Luke, but that didn't do much damage. Whisper's dice were terrible, both attack and defense. My opponent was able to kill her with three hits and I rolled blanks. If I hadn't bombed myself earlier, I could have survived another round or so. The bomber eventually died. I kept forgetting to assign my free target lock from FCS and calling Rebel Captive's stress token. Stupid mistakes, but the game almost lasted the whole 75 minutes.

Match 2

My opponent had Chewbacca, Cracken, and a couple Talas. He set up in one corner and came down the side of the board. I set up toward the middle and came down a pair of lanes through asteroids. The Bomber went down the lane closest his squad. The Firespray and Whisper went down the far lane. Whisper bumped into the back of the Firespray on the first turn. Dumb, but it was early enough that it was survivable. For the first couple rounds of combat, the Bomber takes a ton of damage and my opponent turns into the asteroid field to engage. My bomber K-turns. The Firespray takes a hard 3 to exit the asteroid field and come around behind my bomber, but lands on an asteroid and looses a shield. Whisper moves through the asteroids to engage. The bomber only had 1 hull point left, so it died easily. Whisper was within range 1 or 2 of all of his ships. My opponent was able to kill Whisper that round, but it took nearly all of his ships to do it. After that, the Firespray lands on another asteroid, but avoids damage. The next round, it bumps and lands on the same asteroid. It didn't take damage but my opponent took care of that. The Firespray was finally able to shoot on the next round, but died soon after. This one was ugly. I only managed to strip one shield off of a Tala, and my opponent wiped the board with me.

Match 3

Twin Firesprays with Mauler Mithel. I set up my Firespray from one corner, angled toward his Firesprays. The bomber came through the asteroids in the middle and Whisper set up across from Mauler. My opponent came up two asteroid lanes with the Firesprays and Mauler took a hard turn across the back edge of the board. The bomber was able to shoot his torpedo, but it was worthless. It was the only ship in range of my opponent, so he focused on it. The bomber moved past his Firesprays so he could come about, but he was killed by Mauler. Next, his Firesprays dropped bombs before moving to engage Whisper. My Firespray landed on his proton bomb, taking a direct hit. Whisper was able to barrel-roll out of range of the seismic charge. However, that put her in Range 1 of one Firespray and Range 2 of the other. Whisper was killed. My opponent was too close to the edge and flew one of his Firesprays off of the board on the next turn. I started chasing his Firespray with mine, while Mauler kept attacking my blind side.

I took last place in the tournament, but I still had a good time. The guy who won the tournament had Darth Vader riding shotgun in a Phantom. It bewildered everyone, but he managed to get a couple kills out of it.
