Battle Royale (Highland) Ending

By Artaterxes, in Talisman Rules Questions

It's the Sprite (S5, C13) vs. the Highlander (S12, C5). The ending states that the first character to arrive at the Crown attacks first, and keeps attacking until he loses. The winner is always the next attacker. The attacker may choose either battle or psychic combat. Given their wide difference in stats, the winner in this particular match would be purely determined by who arrives first.

Highlander arrived at the Crown first and thus attacks first, basically sealing himself as the winner. However, the Sprite has the Invisibility Potion, allowing her to evade the Highlander. Their is neither a winner nor loser, so who attacks next? If it's the Sprite, she'll win; if the Highlander, he'll win!

The card says, "In the case of a stand-off, the same characters fight again." This probably implies the original attacker is the attacker again (and thus determines combat type). But it doesn't explain what happens after an evade.

What do you think?

Nice topic, and another small bug in the Battle Royale Ending.

I agree the instruction for the stand-off probably means that the attack is repeated between the same characters, with the attacker remaining the same as the previous fight.

I think the best way to go is to treat evading just like the stand-off, as you say. This will make evading useless in most cases.

However, resolving Battle Royale at Night with a character wearing the Night Shroud and unable to win an attack will result in a stalemate. Perhaps no evading allowed would be better?

We do not allow evading on the Crown with Battle Royale...
