Marshalling timing, marshalling shadow cards, and multiplayer titles

By Twn2dn, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Sorry, these aren't exactly related. I just thought I would include all of my questions here:

1. When do people count their income? Do both players count it at the same time? Does it happen before or after the time in each phase when players can un-shadow their characters?

2. I am confused by the shadow rules...can cost reducers be used to reduce the cost of cards that come out of the shadows? For example, may I kneel an Eastern Fiefdoms to reduce the cost of a Targ character that comes out of shadows (assuming, of course, the character is coming out of shadows in the marshalling phase)?

3. Just to confirm, which multiplayer title cards are available each round? Are they randomly selected each round (and then the first player picks from among those alotted)? For example, if you have three players, would you first randomly choose which three will be available that round, and then the first player picks from the three that are available? Or does the first player choose from among the six multiplayer cards?

Thanks in advance!

2) Shadows cards can not have the cost reduced into or out of Shadows by any card otrher than the Stark card released in this Chapter pack. All other reducers available say reduce the cost of the next [House Affiliated Card] you play this phase. Putting a card into Shadows and bringing a card out of Shadows is not playing a card from your hand into the play area, the only thing those cards can reduce.

3) In a three player the first player gets to choose from all six title cards, and then selcetion moves on clockwise. After that round, those three titles are removed, and the new first player will select first among the three remaining titles. After that round all titles are available again. It makes selecting which titles to choose incredibly important and an excellent way to manipulate your opponents if you are smart abut your choices.

Counting income is the very first thing each player does when they become the Active Player in Marshalling. So the First Player counting his/her gold is the first thing that happens after the start of the Marshalling phase. The next player counting gold is the first thing that happens after First Player says "done."

Bringing cards out of Shadows happens as part of the beginning of each phase (the rules say "at the beginning of each phase" is when you can bring cards out of Shadows). Since counting gold is the first thing the First Player does after the Marshalling phase begins, Shadow cards come out of Shadows before anyone counts gold in Marshalling.

Nope.

Two reasons: first, every reducer I know of says to reduce the cost to play your next card. Bringing a card out of Shadows is does not meet the definition of playing a card (see the FAQ section on the difference between "play" and "put into play"). Bring cards out of Shadows is a "put into play" mechanic, so reducers are not applicable. Second, the timing will never work. All reducers are standard phase actions. You can't kneel them until you get to a player action window - and cards come out of Shadows at the beginning of each phase, before there are any player action windows for the phase. And since reducers also have a "...this phase" restriction, kneeling a reducer in Marshalling, then bringing a card out of Shadows at the beginning of Challenges is past that limit on the reducer.

This only applies to a 3-player game. In multiplayer games of more than 3, all 6 titles are available each round.

In a 3-player game, Round 1 has all 6 titles available and the players can pick any of them (in proper order, of course). In Round 2, you can only choose from the 3 remaining. For Round 3, all 6 are available again. There is never a random selection of the titles that are available in a round - unless you've got some house rule going on.

I'd like to state for the record I still despise both the design and the mechanics of this board. It's like a Jaguar. Promises a lot at first glance with it's association, trim, bells and whistles, and then you realize it is bits of fancy wood glued here and there with some chrome bits on what is essentially an unsound machine that is going to give you problems for years to come. But you've bought into the brand and are aJaguar man now so you have to just be all British with your stiff upper lip and put up with it for appearances sake.

gah.

What I wouldn't give for a simple pbp interface these days. I'd even take the spambots back.

(in case of confusion this topic keeps saying I'm the last post with my first response and that there is a new post, despite my having checked this thread and read ktom's response half a dozen times, AND hit mark posts as read)

I'm not sure why I thought the multiplayer titles might at some point (or in some situations) be picked at random. In any case, that clears up the confusion on that issue and the others. Thanks!

Having this problem with most of the forums too... it seems to have been spreading. I already voiced my displeasure in person.
