The Ordo Xenos Armoury

By HCP, in Deathwatch

Hi all, this is my first post but i've been reading these forums for some months as we started a Deathwatch campaign at the start of the year, so I thought this would be the ideal place to post about my first (and possibly last given the way the gaming group has split) project.

I created The Ordo Xenos Armoury as a way of introducing a variety of new weapons and armour into the game. Almost all of the items came from Dawn of War II but I changed, updated and otherwise pushed them into some form that could be used within the Deathwatch ruleset.

Why post this at all?

1. Just to get it out there rather than gathering virtual dust on my drive.

2. Sanity checks (after looking at the same document for weeks it all begins to blur together so I may have missed something that breaks the game completely).

3. Playtesting and tweaks (unfortunately I don't know when I'll be playing again).

I didn't use any real rules for this, simply used my imagination and came up with concepts that seemed to fit in the backstory as well as the rules.

Anyway for you to use as you see fit...

Enjoy.

Great work!

The layout, the format, the illustrations, these are all fantastic. I'm thoroughly impressed with the amount of effort that went into this, as well as the fact that for the most part, you avoided any gamebreaking or unreasonable combinations (like lightning claws or storm bolters with concussive). I haven't had a chance to go through it all, and I'll post specific feedback once I do, but there are three points I want to raise.

1) You are not using errata stats. Though anyone using them can easily adjust the base stat lines accordingly, and appropriately infer the boost to any increased or decreased damage figure accordingly, the simple fact of the matter is that errata stats are *much* more balanced than regular weapon stats. Without them, there is no reason to ever use anything other than a bolt weapon or a lascannon. Even with them, it's highly debatable, but at least there can be a debate.

2) Just so you know, this is best suited for the house rules forum. I'm not worried about it though, just thought I would point it out.

3) The Circlet of Storms is CRAZY overpowered. Librarians are already far and away the most powerful class in the game. Giving the class that already does the most damage, in the greatest area of effect (as well as having the best defensive and interrogation abilities, and possessing outright divination abilities, etc) to deal 50% more damage is simply nuts. At rank 8, that would allow a Librarian to deal either 19d10 or 21d10 (depending on how you did the math) damage (pen 14) to everyone in a 14 meter radius, which would also likely prevent anyone in the area of effect from dodging, on average instantly killing anything whose wounds, toughness, and armour did not combine to exceed 136.

A much more reasonable (and still incredibly desirable!) version of that armour would be simply +1 PR for determining damage, the same as what you have for divination.

This is really cool, though for master crafted weapons you should add 2 to their damage.

Thanks for the feedback!

I will update it with your suggestions this weekend.

I finally managed to update and upload a new PDF with your suggestions, thanks again.

Anyone else had the opportunity to try things out?

Just got my hands on these, will try them out ASAP. Will let you know what happens. Keep up the great work.
