I came to X-wing a little late and missed the Falcon and Y-Wing etc... these are now really hard to find. Have new players missed these completely (baring ebay purchases) Will FF every revisit these ships? Would this put new players at a disadvantage in tournaments?

You didn't miss anything. If they are sold out, it's only a temporary problem. They will all be back in stock, eventually.

You should check out FFG's Upcoming page, where you can find out the current status of releases, both for new ships and for reprints.

I don't know where the OP is in the world, but the last time I was in a Barnes & Noble, they had every released expansion on the shelf.

They constantly reprint, you'll get them soon enough.

Just shop around. If you can't find them in-store try online.

Indeed, my local store is about to restock wave 1 ships like the TIE and Xwing expansion any day soon.

You can also find any of the previously released ships for a sensible price if you spend a few minutes looking at auction sites and online stores.

Ebay have stores that still have the early stuff in stock.

Just look around.

If anything i find that a lot of stuff from wave 4 is still about as it isnt as popular in my area as OT ships.. you can get phantoms, defenders, z95s and e wings *everywhere* in Nottingham... other EU stuff like the HWK is also sitting on the shelves.

This seemed to be the case in other uk towns that i've gone to gaming shops in.

I don't know if its the case in all of them as my sample size is small (nottingham, sheffield, chesterfield, burton upon trent) and consists of about six bricks and mortar stores and an equal number of ebay and web stores.

While everything is online still, i've not seen Xwings, Y wings, Tie'ln in the high street stores for months.

The 'icons' of star wars are the things that everyone recognises as being from that film.. like:

stormtroopers

light sabres

darth vader

X wing

Tie Fighter

stop five people in the street over say 13 years old and show them pics of those five items and they will go 'ooh star wars'

Show them an e-wing, a HWK , IG2000 etc and I bet they will have not idea what it is from.

Iconic things resonate with people in general.

EU stuff while great in parts isnt really 'iconic' unless you're a die hard fan.

I mean i wouldnt even put B wings and A wings in the 'iconic list'

Iconic would be something you identify with Star Wars. So for instance, if you grew up with Tie Fighter, Defenders are iconic, same with Hwk and Dark Forces. Actually A-wings aren't that small in the last film. B-wings on the other hand.......

No you're being far too subjective there.

You have to look at icons as they appear to the 'norm', ie the general public.

its not about your personal tastes.. they dont make things 'iconic'

What makes something iconic is its place in the common culture.

Interestingly on the first page of searching for star wars icons hardly *anything* is prequel, which would suggest those films have not embedded themselves in the cultural group subconscious as deeply.

I get that for you those ships represent star wars but you're clearly an exception, in fact most of us on here are as we all have a knowledge of 'star wars' that is probably far greater than the average Joe.

Really though, the only un-iconic ships here are E-wings, and Phantoms. Everything else is pretty well known. I mean think about it, just show someone a Z-95 or Defender, and they can deduce some weird looking X-wing and Tie, just based on looks.

yeah i'll give you that, but i reckon show them a defender or a z95 and they will say 'is that from star wars?' if not prompted but show them 'darth vader' or an 'x wing' and they will know exactly what it is.

As its become part of culture.. the OT has been assimilated into every day life to a degree that its parodied and venerated in hundreds of TV shows (friends, family guy, spaced) and movies like Spaceballs, FAQ about time travel, fanboys etc etc

But the stuff always used to say 'star wars' is the OT archetypes like lightsabres, leias slave costume, stormtroopers, vaders heavy breathing.

Because it had mass distribution. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone over 30 that has *not* seen ANH but the amount of people who have seen that *and* played Dark Forces, Xwing, Tie fighter etc is much smaller.

At the present time we are all operating under the assumption that ships will be reprinted as the current stocks are depleted. Unless you NEED it NOW you should never pay an inflated price because they are currently hard to find when you can normally just wait a couple months for them to come back in stock.

Now I guess this may not apply to every place that carries X-Wing but it is true as a whole. Barring a major shakeup of some sort pieces are, or will be, available.

In my opinion, none of the EU X-wing Miniatures models quite qualify as either.

Actually, Defenders and Z-95s (as I said earlier) are quite well known. Ask around here, the most popular game is Tie Fighter. Z-95s even appear in the Clone Wars. I'm pretty sure a lot of people know what these ships are.

We had similar issues when I got into the game, just prior to Wave 3's release. I couldn't find TIE Fighters anywhere to get Howlrunner, or X-Wings to get Wedge. And god help me if I was going to pat $30 or more for a Y-Wing! This is mainly due to the popularity of the game and it being sold out EVERYWHERE!

It is both good an bad for the game. Hopefully soon, FFG will get it, please get it, and start ordering much larger batches and getting those orders out earlier.

But the next shipment of ships will be here soon enough...
