Developing Dash and Chewie

By Osoroshii, in X-Wing

now I've been playing this version of Dash and Chewy and have faired well with it, but was wondering if there could be an improvement on this squad.

Chewbacca + Gunner + C-3PO + Millennium Falcon (51)
Dash Rendar + Veteran Instincts + Heavy Laser Cannon + Outrider (49)

One thing that always seems to happen with the HLC is I always burn my focus and leave Dash open to return attacks. Even with a good 2 defense die the hits get in. Here is where I think Recon Specialist could help and beef up the defense for Dash. To get the crew in we have to cut a card, so Gunner is out. Chewie often whiffs on his attacks despite having Gunner, so I'm not convinced to a big lose there. However we dropped 5 points and only added 3 in. Lone Wolf is a card that could help strengthen Chewbacca's attack and even give him better elusiveness as I can reroll those blanks after C-3PO awards him a free evade. So here is the new list.

Chewbacca + Lone Wolf + C-3PO + Millennium Falcon (48)
Dash Rendar + Veteran Instincts + Heavy Laser Cannon + Recon Specialist + Outrider (52)

Where would you take the two flying saucers if you were build them?

I like your Dash build, pretty much what I would run. I'd weigh the use of the Recon vs the use of Barrel Roll as they are both taking actions and Recon is costing you 3 points.

I'm not a fan of the Fat Chewie, it's "meta" for now, but I'm not feeling it long term.

For me, I'd drop the Falcon title and Lone Wolf and put Predator on him.

You still get one evade a turn and Chewie will actually kill something as he can Focus with Predator.

Just my 2 cents.

I've played Dash with PtL, Nien Nub, Outrider, and HLC to good effect. That is 52. I pair him with 2 FCS Blue Squads but I think you could fit a reasonably fat Chewie in next to him.

The basic archetype

Fat named YT-1300 + HLC Outrider

Baseline build

Chewbacca + C-3PO + Millennium Falcon (46)

Wild Space Fringer + Heavy Laser Cannon + Outrider (42)
So that leaves 12 points of upgrades. I think Dash is the obvious choice here, since you need to be moving as late as possible. So that puts us at:

Baseline HLC Dash + Fat Falcon (6 points remaining)

Chewbacca + C-3PO + Millennium Falcon (46)

Dash Rendar + Heavy Laser Cannon + Outrider (48)
PS9 Dash + Gunner Chewie (your original list)

Chewbacca + C-3PO + Millennium Falcon + Gunner (51)

Dash Rendar + VI + Heavy Laser Cannon + Outrider (49)
Triple Action Dash (high risk, high reward)

Chewbacca + C-3PO + Millennium Falcon (46)

Dash Rendar + PtL + Kyle Katarn + Heavy Laser Cannon + Outrider (55)
Lando + Dash (Lando flies interference for Dash, 3 points to spend)

Lando + C-3PO + Millennium Falcon + Tactical Jammer (49)

Dash Rendar + Recon Specialist + Heavy Laser Cannon + Outrider (52)
This one is interesting because it lets you barrel roll Dash before moving courtesy of Lando. 3 points remaining gives you some options. Recon Specialist on Dash, or PS9 on both and Nien Nunb on Lando.
Lonely 7's (Lonely. So very lonely.)

Chewie + VI + C-3PO + Millennium Falcon (49)

Dash Rendar + Lone Wolf + Recon Specialist + Heavy Laser Cannon + Outrider (52)
Max PS (LOL @ Phantoms)

Han + VI + C-3PO + Millennium Falcon (51)

Dash Rendar + VI + Heavy Laser Cannon + Outrider (49)
Boosting Dash (2 points left)

Chewie + C-3PO + Millennium Falcon (46)

Dash Rendar + Engine Upgrade + Heavy Laser Cannon + Outrider (52)
One option is to pair this with Lando so Dash gets still gets a focus if he boosts, which makes this essentially the same as the Lando + Dash list above.

I am sure there are a lot more that I am missing. These are just the obvious ones to me.

I personally feel as though Veteran Instincts is very important on a Dash Outrider/HLC. giving him a PS9 makes it so getting into the blind spot for other high PS ships in meta more difficult. Han w/Engine Upgrade, Soontir and Whisper could pose a big problem for a PS7 Dash.

MajorJuggler, that is an interesting idea!

Hey major, if you add a flight instructor, what is the average survivability increase to the yt2400? What about Flight instructor + lone wolf?

Well once I get my gubby little hands on a YT-2400 I'm going to either fly ledo or dash with that build setup and with a HLC (no outrider title) and see how it handles. I figure I'll get to reroll at least one die per defense, maybe both, and almost garenting that I block something from getting though. Makes it the bane of swarms as their two attacks are no match for my rerollable evade dice. Well, it will at least make me THINK that its doing something.

Either going to pair it with 2 X-Wings, or 2 green squadron pilots. Or Chewie with R2D2+C-3PO+MF title+PtL+EU. Might need to cut the fat off of chewie, but after running chewie with R2+C-3PO+Title, once you hit endgame and your shields are gone, you actually become more tank, negating potentially 3 hits per turn at the cost of some critical, potentially. (Which I seem to roll really lucky with not getting them.)

According to my simple math, you get +.467 evades, raising your evade value from .75 to 1.22 ebades per shot.

Sounds like MJ is our favorite new Magic Eight Ball.
