Jake Farrell: First Impression & Thoughts

By UniJustin, in X-Wing

So I finally got the chance to try out Jake Farrell at the local X-Wing game night. I flew him with Push The Limit, Outmaneuver, A-Wing Test Pilot and Proton Rockets for a whopping 33 points. At first I was hesitant to sink so many of my build points into a single ship, but as it turns out, he was the MVP of the game. I used him as a flanker and late game closer. PTL grants him incredible maneuverability and Outmaneuver helps to offset the A-Wing's low damage output. I managed to fire off the Proton Rockets and get 3 damage onto a Sigma Squadron Pilot with them. I really like Proton Rockets, especially on a high PS A-Wing. The lack of a Target Lock requirement gives you a lot of flexibility in using them. That being said, by dropping them I could be saving a full 5 points. In either case I feel this piece has the potential to perform really well in a competitive environment and I look forward to seeing him in Rebel squads.

Has anyone else had the chance to fly Mr. Farrell yet? If so; what have you kitted him out with? Who do you fly alongside him and in what role?

I'm really excited for all of the new A-Wings, but my ideas were all ripped apart in a thread that I started late last night. Jake and Gemmer are going to be two of my favorite ships I think

I'm a big fan of Jake as well. Been running him like with PtL, Vet Instincts, and Rocket - that extra PS doesn't always factor in, but when it does it tends to be big. The ability to focus, barrel roll, PtL, boost keeps him out of trouble against a good number of ships, and focus, barrel roll / boost, target lock can really setup the Rocket for 5 hits. I've been pairing him with Tycho with a similar setup and Wedge w/ Lone wolf & R2D2. I'm still hesitant with 3 ships, but it seems to be solid so far.

I have been trying to talk about him for some time. I won a local tournament with Jake, Nera, and Corran. People really don't expect that guy to be able to do so much. In one game he took out a Shuttle single handedly, and in two others, he took out most of a Z-95 mini swarm.

I've been telling people...but I don't know if they are listening, since most of the focus has been on Wave 5 stuff. A-wings are the real deal again.
