Yea I'm not saying this is a complete fix, but I think it could still work. To fix the TIE ADV either up the damage to 3, make it cheaper, or give it a unique upgrade like how x wing has the astromech, the b wing/ e wing has sensor upgrade, and so on.
Is the TIE Adv. good/okay again?
You know how many times I've crunched numbers against seemingly impossible events that still seem to happen? What's the probability of 6 evade dice with a focus rolling all blanks and your opponent rolling 3 hits to kill Howlrunner on the second turn? Slimmer than that and it's happened to me before.
Seriously, the dice do not form a normal distribution, so just stop quoting me on statistics.
OK here is the solution.
- Line up all your dice in front of the microwave.
- First dice that repeatedly rolls poorly gets tossed in the microwave.
- Turn it on and melt it. Make sure the other dice see.
- Enjoy your new highly obedient dice!
Edit: Yes, that is completely MathWing legit too.
I'm sure there's some statistic somewhere that says that this works. ![]()
@ MJ - That's not too far fetched. One tournament I was at "a long time ago..." I got so frustrated with my dice I grabbed a hammer from store owner, bashed one of the dice into powder, pointed to the rest and said, "THAT'S what YOU get if you don't start rolling right!" Needless to say hilarity ensued with the other players. The funniest thing is my dice didn't roll badly the rest of the tournament. Not great, but not BADLY. ![]()
Back ON TOPIC - I tend to go on tange.. SQUIRREL! <ahem> ![]()
Seriously, I think the Advanced will be "good/okay again" once we get whatever fix that FFG is going to do for them. I'll be anxiously awaiting to see what that is, as I really like the Advanced but feel the same way about it as most everyone else... underwhelmed. Proton Rockets are a bandaid - they cover the boo-boo until it can heal. Hopefully it will heal with minimal scarring. We'll all see what happens in the future. Until then, to the OP, have fun with it and try stuff out. That's the best way to learn what works and to have fun. Which is what this game is all about. ![]()
*hugs* yeah he is buddy, he's still good.Vader is still good though.
I love how consoling that came across!
Let's go with a crazy concept, just for kicks:
Vader
Proton rockets
Squad leader
Maarek
Proton rockets
Opportunist
(Not saying its good, I just like to think of crazy combos)
At the very least, Proton Rockets turn the Advanced into something that your opponent can't just ignore.

Missed opportunity...
"You have failed me for the last time."
I like Vader with outmaneuver and engine upgrade
I don't bother with missiles or torps to use points for more ships.
but fly this Vader with a swarm and you will be a pain in the enemies butt.
I tried to fly with some other named pilots and they all got slaughtered. it almost seems as you need to run a mini-swarm against the 3 ship rebel builds to stand a chance. taking to many imperial unique pilots leaves you with to little hit points for your points value, as you will see the rebels can take a beating before they go down.
Proton Rockets: These simply require a Focus token (not spent), so you can get 5 boosted dice at Range 1. This is a 2 dice swing compared to your primaries (Attack +1 vs base Agility), and it has a much more restricted attack zone. They cost 3 points.
Actionless 5 attack is pretty close in efficiency than a 3 dice attack with an action.
If you can't take extra focus or TL, i don't see them being that amazing.

Seeing as you don't spend the focus token to fire them, it's 5 dice with a focus.

Then disgregard what i said. i derped ![]()
It happens to all of us ![]()
Personally I'm looking at using it in combo with Outmaneuver. That will mean against an X-Wing you have 5 dice with a focus, against a single green die ![]()
Um, no. The Advanced will be terrible until FFG's fix for it comes out. Proton Rockets just make it an expensive TIE that has one great attack per game.

Still waiting for their coverage of the 2014 Gencon tourny.
Woohoo!! Another TIE Advanced thread...and another dollar in the TIE Advanced jar!
