Monster Choices

Hi,

We are due to play tonight. The second encounter in quest 2 of the first act. The heroes are getting powerful.

I bought as many monsters as I can. Last week I played with Kobolds which was quite fun, but I don't have the figures, so I just used some other figures.

I'm feeling a bit disenchanted as the prospect of the game tonight. Everyone loves X-Wing at the moment and Descent is taking second place a bit, which is a shame.

I just can't decide which monsters to use. I don't want to keep using the goblin archers and kobolds, but the others seem to me to be one hit and they are dead at this stage of the game. The quest is the Masquerade Ball and its a race to the end between the female evil doer and the heroes.

Can any kind soul offer any recommended monsters to accompany the lame cave spiders? 2 open groups.

For encounter 2, blocking is the way to go. When it comes to blocking shadow dragons are nice, but if you think it's just going to die, go with Barghests. They're great at plugging hallways, and the relatively large group number means more actions needed to kill them. Also, they can howl to fatigue the heroes.

I used shadow dragons for this quest. Their 2 grey dice, large size, shadow ability, and high hit points makes them a very strong choice. One good roll on the master dragon can wreck the group if they are being too reckless as well, which can also slow them down a bit.

Some other decent choices can be to target their mobility in other ways. A monster that can immobilize can do the trick well, if you can figure out how to bring one (I can't remember the allowed monster types off the top of my head, so I don't know if archyura are allowed). As Zaltyre said, barghests can be a good chocie. Place them horizontally to block the hallways multiple times and have the ones in back howl repeatedly.

I'm supposing you lost encounter 1, then? That makes encounter 2 significantly tougher for the OL in that quest.
