R3-A2, scourge of the skies.

By InstantAequitas, in X-Wing

R3-A2 on a Rookie is a very strong 23 points combined with Roark.

R3-A2 on a Knave is also quite good as it protects your stress droid investment.

Falcons don't like stress, and neither do Phantoms. Firing as PS 12 is also a good counter to Predator/Hans as your wounded ship always gets to shoot first. As the R3-A2 is the most dangerous, you protect it on the Knave.

Slightly more firepower but less control and defence on the droid.

You know, for some reason it never occurred to me to use Roark's ability to push a cheaper pilot with stressbot to skill 12. I have no idea how I missed that. I might try one of the ghostbusters lists you posted in my league.

R3-A2 + Hobbie. TL and clear the stress when you spend the lock.

Hobbie does pair nicely with R3-A2, though being stuck at PS5 he kinda shoots too late to affect the high PS opponents. Again, Roark can help, as well as Dutch for granting the stress stripping TL, but I feel it kind of hamstrings the firepower and maneuverability of the overall 100pt size list. Those three together in epic however...

Getting some good ideas for combos guys, thanks.

Kind of a different subject but I used Roark with blaster turret, recon spec and moldy crow along with chewie+gunner and a naked awing. Roark really made chewie a beast against phantoms plus Roark with a blaster turret does decent damage as well. Just stalled early with chewie and Roark to build up my focus and then unleashed the beast haha. Only problem is Roark may not work well against seasoned players as he is usually a primary target. I do like him tho, the hwk dial on the other hand...well that's a diff story.

Don't forget Tarn with R7. For 25 points you have a ship that can be pretty hard to kill, and the fewer ships to shoot at him the harder it becomes to kill him.

I like TAR-7 builds. Problem is R-7 only works once a turn just like C-3PO. He can still get focused down. Makes for a great blocker though.

Tarn can block, and Tarn can also mess with their target priority. Opponents often don't want to shoot at him. In fact, he works best next to an ace like Wedge or with the protection of Biggs, so either it's unwise or they CAN'T focus him out early. In these situations, he can become quite a nuisance for your opponent if he only has 1-2 ships left. If course, there are also the times when you make him reroll three hits and an eye and he flips two hits and two crits.

Why does everyone act like E-Wings have so many green moves? It has 4. That is only 1 more than an X or B. Sure it has a better dial overall with more whites and less reds (though I'd love if it had a red 1 like an X),

Is it because it has longer green moves (2 banks vs 1 banks) and a 3 straight green? Or is it because R2 is so common people just forget that it isn't native to an E-Wing? I love my e-wings, but I never thought they had some amazing dial full of green.

Yes, many players, myself included, like the faster greens better than slower ones. I also believe the Z-95 has a better dial than the X-wing because of the 2-speed greens and the shorter K-turn. The Ewing has 1 more Green than an Xwing, but the ones it has are generally more versatile.

Now you're right E-wing doesn't have the most green maneuvers and the Headhunter is only missing the 3 straight on it's green list. However when talking about green maneuvers it is great to have more options. And as for ships that have the astromech slot where one can abuse R2-D2 or R3-A2 the E-wing has the most in terms of options for green maneuvers.
