So I am visiting Fort Bliss for a couple days and I am staying near Biggs Army Airfield. If that isn't enough fun for you, Biggs street is about 2 blocks away, and if that isn't enough Luke street runs parallel to it just one more block east.
Just a fun Observation
When was this base set up? Before or after 1977? If after, some general was a Star Wars fan!!
But if you drive down Biggs Street, does it end in an explosion so that Luke Street can keep going?
I'm sorry. The only place worse than Bliss is Sill.
Ouch man that hurts, I am visiting Bliss on TDY from Sill.
Apparently Lt. Biggs died in a plane crash in WWI, had to do some research after I got here. There is also a Haan St.
Never been to either Bliss or Sill, but I have never heard any good things about either. Except for those street names of course. I think I am pretty much safe from PCSing to either though.
Bliss isn't great. Ft, Sill, yes, it sucks. However, Ft. Polk LA is the worst place to be stationed. If you thought JRTC was bad, that is just 29 days of the worst place.
I need to go to Bliss/El passo just to see the awesomeness of those street names.
Ever been to Altus AFB, about 40mi west of Sill? That's apparently the "best base in the USAF." Go ahead, Google it lol.
But when I was there, I went to Sill to visit a nice base, I kid you not.
Sill isn't a bad post, there is even a nice little FLGS in little Lawton. Are there better places? YEP. But there are worse ones as well. Altus wasn't that impressive but if you like the middle of nowhere it is right up your alley.
Edited by zingerwhipThankfully I was only on Sill for a week, Bliss was 3 months... in the summer, on Nato camo Bradleys. I preferred Knox and Bragg but Germany beat all.
I have never even heard of Altus. Of course, if you want middle of nowhere, Camp Merrill is just the place. I have an hour and ten minute drive if I want to play X-wing (when I'm not stuck in the national forest training Students). I must say though, the proximity to the Atlanta regional was a plus compared to Ft. Campbell.
Seeing as we are spouting random locations at this point, is there anyone in El Paso or Ft. Bliss that would like to get a game in tomorrow the 16th of September and if so, where can I go in this town to find a game?
Every Final Fantasy has a pair of guardsmen named "Wedge" and "Biggs". My wife loves point them out to me as she plays. ![]()
. . . but Germany beat all.
Just ask Belgium.
People almost act like there's such a thing as a nice military base out there. None of the ones I've been to would count, the closest was Redstone Arsenal in Alabama.
Got to love oddly coincidentally named places.
In the UK there is a gothic music festival in whitby.. one of the streets is called 'dark entry' which usually has goths posting around it as its the title of a Bauhaus song.
And round the corner and over the bridge the square near the pubs is called 'arguments yard' ![]()
If you guys know of troops downrange who would like to play the game, send me a pm with an address and I'll be sure to get a package out to them soon.
