IG-2000 double cannon interaction

By Sergovan, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Theory crafting question.

IG-2000 gets 2 cannon slots. If it takes a loadout of HLC and Autocannon, could the hits generated by the HLC be unblockable by the Autocannon text or would the attack have to come specifically from Autocannon to be unblockable?

I'm thinking that the 3 dice attack for the Autocannon has to be used but I'm not 100% sure if that is true. We've never had 2 cannon upgrades on the same ship before so I thought that I would toss this out here.

I'm at work so I can't post the two cannon card pics up (can someone paste the pics so we can read the texted abilities of the cards)

You have to be using the attack from the autocannon to get the rest of its text to apply.

I agree, otherwise you could use the mini focus built into the Proton Torp every time you fired your primaries.

Barring some strange upgrade or rule insert from the IG2000, no. There has to be something that would make taking 2 cannons worthwhile otherwise they wouldn't bother having 2. Maybe something that allows them to fire both each attack somehow?

I think choice is probably the main reason. It will certainly be expensive, but an HLC+Autoblaster gives options at all ranges, or an HLC+Ion gives the choice of taking the heavy hit or ionizing at the right time. And that's without knowing what the new cannons do. Given that our only bonus attack is Corran, and he gets his on loan, I'd be very surprised to see something that let you fire both in any way.

And no, you cannot use the Autoblaster's ability.

I'd be surprised too, but we've seen some crazy stuff lately so it's entirely possible, it just may be super expensive or have some drawback.

I forgot about the " Attack: " header. That limits it right there. Thanks for posting the pics Tiefanatic.

Ok, back to theory crafting rules interactions.

Everyone seems to have also overlooked

Autoblaster: Range 1

HLC: Range 2-3.

You will never be at the right range to fire and benefit from both at the same time.

If you're including my speculation in that, I did not overlook that - you could have 2 targets, 1 at range 1, and 1 at range 2-3, so you could totally fire both on the same turn if some new crazy upgrade allowed it.

Maybe something like the pilot ability on one of the other IG-2000s that lets it fire more than one cannon at the same time...which would be passed on to all other IG-2000s via the title?

Corran can fire twice in a given round (and not being able to attack the following round). One of IG-88's cards might be that he can fire both sets of cannons with the same restriction (seperate attacks, of course).

I first suspected the double tap ability as well, but after some thought wondered if there would be an elegant way to combine the effects? The Covenant interview has them saying that the S+V will be given certain tricks that make them uniquely interactive as I remember it. I could almost see something like "When firing a secondary weapon, you may use the Firepower Value OR the Range Value of another secondary weapon." So like with Ion cannon and Heavy Lasers I can say attack with Ion, using the four dice from Heavy Lasers. Or with Autoblaster and Heavies, I could attack at any range with Auto blasters, or get an extra die at close range. That would be very interesting while opening a lot of design niches. It would be annoying as hell to balance. But that's just the old game design consultant in me talking.

Edit: It could easily be an Illicit upgrade card mechanic.

Second Edit: It should probably reference only cannons so that you cant have Advanced Torpedoes Firepower on all your guns for Boba Fett Firesprays. Call it Black Market Blasters...or something...now I'm just thinking out loud

There are many ships with more upgrade slots than it would be "worthwhile" to take. IE Bombers with 2 torpedoes and 2 missiles. No abilities that allow you to fire multiples, and generally not worthwhile to load more than one. Point being, it doesn't appear they consider that during the design.
