I know the Outlands are one of the best 'take-all-comers', 'do-everything' builds. I was curious as to which three heroes everyone thought was best. I traditionally run Spirit Glorfindel, Hirluin, and Berevor. Covers, spirit and lore for quests that require cancel or healing, and give the card draw necessary to get the allies out fast. Does anyone have any suggestions for alternate builds? I'm really toying with the idea of replacing Berevor with Grima. Provides a boost early game, allowing play of two Outlands Allies per turn, or Steward on Hirluin first turn. What do you think?
Best Heroes for Outlands Deck?
I've seen a lot of people use Elrond. He can pay for any allies, and with Vilya he can get some in for free. If you go with Mono-Leadership, you can take advantage of Strength of Arms and Lord of Morthonde. You could throw Aragorn with Sword that was Broken in there too just to make questing super easy so you can hold more guys back for combat.
Right now I'm playing with a Hirluin, Theodred, and Bifur build right now as I'm playing through Voice of Isengard. Theodred provides some resource acceleration and Bifur + Narvi's Belt provides some additional resource smoothing. I'm tempted to swap out Bifur for Beravor or Bilbo but there's too much card draw / hand size hate in Voice of Isengard for me to pull the trigger on that yet.
Back when outlands was new and the against the shadow cycle was not complete I used just hirluin + bifur in secrecy.
It worked great, so great I quickly piched my tent in the 'outlands = OP' camp.
Used a very good tale & timely aid to drop allies like flies.
Used risk some light & out of the wild get a good grip on the encounter deck.
It's a secrecy deck that really worked.
Hirluin, Sam, and Theodred is an awesome combo, if you want to go mono leadership.
Or I've had a lot of success with Hirluin, Bilbo, and Glorfindel. Low threat and very solid card draw.

Interesting. Outlands are powerful enough to make 2 heroes decks work. I now have to try this.
I use Hirluin, Theodred and Grima. Gets things out real fast.
My first outlands deck when they came out was Hurluin, theodred, beravor. Card draw and resource generation is all outlands needs. It destroyed just about every quest available at the time. I have hot really invested any time building decks with them other than putting them in a Doomed deck with Grima, Aragorn, and Hurluin, which also crushed most things.
If you want to make it interesting, you might as well pair outlands with the worst 3 heroes in the game that have no synergy, and even then they probably still do alright.
And yes, 2 hero outlands decks work. Glorfindel and Hurluin was also one of my first builds, which still beat many quests with ease.
I had to go down to just 1 hero decks with Hurlin by himself to make things interesting, and still beat JAtA and others. Heck my lowest score ever for 7th level was 57 with hurluin all by himself.
NM mode change things a bit, and some of the post outland scenarios are specifically designed to destroy the power of the trait. But when they first hit the scene they were unstoppable.
I also had a lot of success with a Hirluin and Sam deck. With Rivendell Scout and Bill the Pony, you have 2 free allies that you can play for a Very Good Tale. Plus all the fun of mono-leadership.
I haven't played Outlands in ages but when did, I went with mono leadership; Hurlin, Balin & Theodred (this was before black riders as Sam would be hard to ignore). Balin's solid early on with 2 sun and 2 shield and his shadow card cancelling ability is mint.
Hurlin,Bilbo,Aragorn(Lore) for solo play, with doomed cards.
Grima is also a good choose, but I prefer 1 doomed card per turn.
I always use Aragorn(core), Balin, Hirluin for mono-Leadership which enables the outlands card draw attachment and Strength of Arms.
Like the OP, I go the Beravor / Glorfindel (Spirit) / Hirluin way. Initially, I had Elrond in instead of Beravor, but Beravor is better in such a deck with the possible exception of the Fords of Isen and Shadow and Flame quests, where Elrond is the superior choice. Still, since I like the one-deck-to-rule-them-all path, the Beravor / Glorfindel (Spirit) / Hirluin lineup is the optimal one for any quest, good even in the aforementioned two.
I have used four different deck for outlands :
- Hirluin / Aragorn(lore) / Glorfindel (spirit) with massive use of doomed cards (Legacy of Numenor and deep knowledge)
- Hirluin / Sam with secrets cards and mono leadership for strengh of arms
- Hirluin / Bifur / Glorfindel (spirit) with secrets cards
- Hirluin / Elrond / Glorfindel (spirit)
The first deck is the more efficient.
