Edited by EliasWindriderYup I am 100% sure about it, it even made it in the Star Wars Encyclopedia.
I read the Hutt entry in the Star Wars Encyclopedia , and apart from mentioning the fact that the Hutts are hermaphroditic, it didn't say anything about them choosing a gender. Are you referring to the Hutt entry on Wookieepedia? If so, I wouldn't put too much stock in that. The portion of the paragraph stating that Hutts "identify" with a specific gender is unsourced, and the Ultimate Alien Anthology entry that is cited at the bottom of the paragraph doesn't mention Hutts choosing their gender either.
Since literally anyone can edit an entry, the bar for inclusion on Wookieepedia is pretty low, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone added their own fan-fic or ideas without citing a legitimate source.
Lords of Nal Hutta: Hutt Space Sourcebook!
Everybody's still going on about Hutt PCs and not a soul has mentioned the startling lack of PC Jawas. We need more utinni!
Agreed, though personally I'd prefer ugnaughts, ortolans, and kotinik.
SLUISSI please! The tech book has to have Sluissi (and Ugnaughts).
What is a "Kotinik", do you mean Kitonak?
Edited by SpraugI remember reading that probably in the late 90's or maybe early 2000's. I'd guess that was in one of the star wars tales (collection of short stories novels) or maybe in a WEG source book. If I recall it was something to the effect of they went through cycles a single Hutt would be male for part of their life and female for another part of it. But they chose their personality to be male or female.
Fair enough. It's been a while since I've read any of the novels that went into any detail on Hutt reproduction, so I may have been totally wrong. I was under the impression that their gender oscillated, even though their physical sex remained hermaphroditic. I suppose it's just as easy for them to choose a gender (since typical binary gender probably isn't really a thing for a completely hermaphroditic species) as it is for their gender to cycle based on where they are on a centuries long reproductive cycle.

I can't overstate how excited I am about playable Hutts.
A good friend of mine played a Hutt in a WEG campaign. He started in a typical "face of the group, up and coming mobster" role. Because of his abysmal speed he went everywhere on his repulsorsled, however, so he basically ended up being our escape driver (that is, speeder pilot.) It made sense and it was very fun.
I know it's asking a lot from the pool of developers at FFG but I hope we get another career book (or two) this year in addition to this sourcebook coming out.

Rumor is FFG is limited to one splat book per quarter... per product line. So 4 EoE splats per year, 4 AoR splats per year, and strting next year 4 F&D splats. (never mind they're all the same system, they have different cover colors, so it sidesteps the limitations on the Star Wars Games Licence.)

Well, I can tell you thats a pretty unfounded rumor.

Is it? will we be seeing 5 AoR splats next year then?
I think it has more to do with resources than any legal issues.Between the writing, editing and production, there is only so much time in the day. Also, discounting Far Horizons, in the year since the release of the Edge CRB we've had five releases; two adventures (Beyond the Rim and The Jewel of Yavin), two career supplements (Enter the Unknown and Dangerous Covenants) and one regional supplement (Suns of Fortune). Now you may say that some came out last year, which would be true. I don't have the exact dates but i think Beyond the Rim and Enter the Unknown came out later last year. That leaves three that came out this year. Add in Far Horizons and the upcoming Lords of Nal-Hutta and that would make 5 books. And that doesn't take into account anything that may make it out before the end of the year like another career book or adventure.
I think FFG is producing books at a fairly respectable rate. Pretty good books too, what with their info and such.
I think people will complain no matter how many books a company produces.
If they make 4 a year, then why not 5?
If they make 5, then why not 6?
It's good, because it shows that the fans love the material and want more, but short of the entire collection coming out the month the Core is released then someone will ask why more can't be done sooner.

Hmmm, I am not sure that's a true statement... I don't think that any sane person would complain if "only" one EotE was released per month... they might complain about the order the books were released in but not the quantity/rate... I think that one book a month is beyond the budgets of more than most gamersI think people will complain no matter how many books a company produces.

Point is that one person's "reasonable" is the next person's "this makes me mad!!!!". There will *always* be someone out there who wants more and faster.
All I'm going to say on the subject is that the products produced so far are all *very* high quality and whilst it might be great to see (for me) the Technician splat, I would sooner have it up to FFG's standards of excellence than rushed and not fully tested.
The time after release is much, much longer than the wait before release. So I'm fine with them adding to the latter a little for the sake of the former.

You might. You might only see 3. Or even 2. Publishing in the RPG business isn't really all that precise, especially when dealing with a license, and doubly so when dealing with a license like Star Wars. And triply so when dealing with overseas printing. There are too many variables to be that precise. If FFG knew exactly what books were coming out which quarter that far in advance, and knew it would hit each date, they would probably start announcing them a bit further ahead of time, especially when the game line was brand new.
The truth is that each book's journey from concept to shelf is a convoluted journey with a ton of unpredictability, that often takes at least a year, but sometimes much longer. Unexpected delays of unpredictable lengths of time are to be expected. Also, 1 book of a certain type per quarter seems to be pretty arbitrary. I don't see any reason to build such a restriction into a publishing schedule. It's handcuffs for the express purpose of handcuffs. It doesn't provide any sort of benefit, and LFL would have no reason to require such a thing. I don't see any reason either party would want to build that kind of language into their license, especially knowing that one bad delay on a splatbook, and FFG would be forced to either sit on a large print run of books for an entire quarter, or risk violating their license agreement.

Although I already "liked" your post, I think this can't be stressed enough! WotC produced a lot of books, but I bought nearly none of them, simply because I didn't like them (D&D/D20 was never my thing - no judging about the quality). However I am in the fortunate position to buy any book I like and at this quality I can't imagine that I won't buy even a single book of this current line!
PLEASE keep the quality as it is, it's great!
Edited by SpraugSo looking at the upcoming Stay on target is at the printers which puts it at coming out in November most likely and a december release for Nal Hutta. Which is still in the dev phase.
Sorry for necroing a thread but after a discussion with a work colleague:

Ummm...why? This book has been released for nearly three years. I've got it sitting on my shelf at home.
Nothing new has really been added, other than Hutt sexuality, which I...choose to ignore.
Sorry thought u were looking for dates of release and whatnot

Well, I already have all announcement and release dates for every book. What I need is the days that the earlier books changed status, like from At the Printer to On the Boat , and so forth.
None of that was in this thread (I checked ).
Ah. Sorry. My mistake

Why, Disney, why?

Wasn't that Lucas during The Clone Wars?

Yup.
I've noticed a recurring motif of, "Disney ruined Star Wars by doing X", when X was done by Lucas before Disney bought Lucasfilm.
Why hasn't Disney released the original theatrical versions of the OT to home video? Because Lucas didn't want that to happen, and they are honoring his wishes. (Could be they're contractually obligated to honor said wishes, of course.)
