Lords of Nal Hutta: Hutt Space Sourcebook!

By progressions, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Congrats, Ryan! I'm soooooo glad they finally announced this book. I feel like it took forever! Anyway, I know you guys are all gonna really dig the parts of this that Ryan worked on. And I also know that there are a LOT more books with his name on it coming out down the road. This guy has been my best friend for the past 20 odd years now, so for his book to finally get announced and finally be able to talk about his contributions is a huge thrill for me.

This was the first book Ryan got hired to work on, so his section is small (just like mine on Suns of Fortune), but that just means Ryan had a LOT of time to really polish and make the most of each word he wrote. I cannot wait to see the art FFG puts in his sections. Trust me, guys. If you are playing in an Edge of the Empire campaign, this book is a MUST HAVE. Is not optional. This is like, THE sourcebook to have for that game line.

Oh wait i got more....

Punch that villain.. er nope.. gut sticks out further than chicken wing arm reach...

Pull yourself up that ledge... um..nope.. chicken wing arms... again...

Can i wear that suit of mando armor.. er.. nope...

Armor cost how much??? ya thats right.. 5 times the area... 5x the cost.

Blaster just ran out of ammo!... too bad.. arms to small to reach across body.. chicken wing arms... aaaaagain...

Need hat.. Giant tube sock....

Need pants...Giant tube sock again...

Need cold weather gear... double up Giant tube socks...

The only thing beneficial about a Hutt PC.. is it can escape being eaten by a Rancor, as long they face plant themselves to look like a Rancor turd...

UGH!.....

<all meant tongue in cheek><------------------------HUMOR DISCLAIMER!!!!!

LOL (I actually did laugh out loud, rancor turd, I am having trouble stopping laughing)

I am totally sold on the idea of a Hutt comedian or lounge singer (Colonist:Politico/Performer).

My thought was more of a Rodney Dangerfield or Milton Berle type. Likable and witty, with a scotch in one hand and a cigar in the other, and a quip for every occasion.

Wow.. this is totally needed for my Game!!!

but..

Hutt PC's... Why.. why.. did they go there... :(

I am excited for them what do you have against hutt PC's?

Ok.. Leap across the chasm.. mm..no...

Ok hide behind.. the.. erm.. no...

Ok i got it... Sneak... um.. not...

Ok Chase the.. nah...

Ok run away from.. nope..

OH i got it.. Disquise yourself as... Nope..

The defence rests...

Get shot with a blaster and laugh at the shooter then beat them into a pulp.

outmaneuver the enemy socially or tactically yes.

Hutt commander would probably be pretty good. As would a Hutt face who uses coercion and has a hired gun enforcer with Loom.

Suns of Fortune was jampacked with info and really breathed life into that sector of the galaxy. I went from being ambivalent about Corellia and company to a total fan. I'm *already* a fan of Hutt Space, so I can't wait!

Deception

"You wouldn't shoot a hutt would you? and face the wrath of my entire clan?"

Coercion

"If you don't surrender now I will make your life so miserable you will WISH you became a sex slave"

Charm

"Im rich, if you help me the reward could be.... well more wealth then you can possibly imagine! I'm a hutt.. we are ALL wealthy'

I really hate how if one or two members of a species or culture appear in the OT as something that becomes a stereotypical role that their species is known for but I'll buy this in a heartbeat,

I hope there's some new ships suited for pirates. Maybe even an FFG original Frigate model used by pirates based in Hutt space.

And for some reason the image of a Hutt Commodore, either pirate or Alliance just came to mind. Interesting possibility really though I don't know if I'll ever get around to making him...

There is no unlike button is there? :D

I think the two of us should keep our day jobs. :D

But look at it this way, in a little more than one year they gave us 3 of the Career books. We'll possibly get the other career books for EotE by the end of 2015.

I would put just one caveat on this, as I think you are right, but if FFG are not happy with the book it will stay in development until it is ready.

It is a great thing that they have expanded their writing staff, but at the same time they have three times as many games systems as they did. What is really cool is these guys are game players and Star Wars fans so it looks really good going forwards.

There's always "Jedi Hunters, Starring Mando Bett, Taipani the Fencer, Gand the Findsman and Inquisitors Cat and Sith."

I'm picturing a pair of Hutt siblings who perform as rhythm and blues singers. One of them has just been released from Kessel and they decide to put their old band back together to raise money to save the orphanage they grew up in...

"We got two Hutts outside, dressed like Nemoidian Tibana merchants..."

"What they want?"

"Get this - one of them wants fourteen whole fried chickens."

"Jaala!"

"And the other wants fifty-two slices of dry white toast"

"Elbooda! Sheeeit! It's the Soul Siblings!"

*song and dance number follows*

Oh, and Princess Leia is the jilted ex-lover of one of them and is trying to kill them.

"It's 106 parsecs to Hutta, we've got a full tank of fuel, half a pack of deathsticks, it's dark in space, and we're wearing glareshades."

"Punch it."

I don't actually have a day job right now. My next contract doesn't start up until October 5, so I have plenty of time to hang around and make bad jokes until then!

I saw the announcement, and I must admit, I actually squealed. It was just too much to take. Thank you FFG, for finally settling me, I had begun to though you were moving on and not giving us any more source books. Now for Bounty Hunter and Smugglers Source Books.

And as a few others have noted, I myself am a little dubious on the inclusion of actually playing a Hutt, maybe Gammoreans instead. But Im happy either way, not to sure on the art of that Hutt though, something just doesn't seem right about it to me.

Do you worse, went sent Paul Hogon over you way for a few years, how bad could it be?

Yeah, now that you mention it Whiteape1 I am very surprised they did not include the Gammorean. I am also not sure whether there is any room for them in any of the remaining sourceboks that we know will come... Bountyhunter? Not much chance unless the add a gladiator specialization. Smuggler? Not a chance... Technician? Yeah, only if they give us rules for a percusive maintenance specialization.

Gammor isn't actually in Hutt Space, so that may be one reason why they aren't appearing in this book. Of course, I don't know where the Gank or Sakiyan are from, so it may not be such a good point.

Yeah, I know their planet isn't in this region, but they are known employees of the Hutts and act as the muscle for many Huttese clans, therefor I would have thought they would make an appearance here....

The only issue I have with playing a hutt is that the hutt art in the lineup is aweful. It is initial release special edition bad. The resy of the lineup is awesome. The hutt bothers me because of the t-shirt and the pointy head.

Whafrog, couldn't a Baron Harkonnen style repulsor belt be "created" to allow the Hutt to be more physical?

Why? In the CGI version of New Hope Jabba gets to have a chat with Han in the hanger of the Falcon. So the Hutts must be able to move somewhat.

I wonder how you would go with a party full of Hutts?

Yeah it seems like they can move, just not fast.

There are plenty of absurd combonations, but really I think a Hutt would make a fun doctor.

Just re-reading this thread your post gave me a great idea for a PC. I'm going to have the doctor on a large ship be a Hutt, just for the looks on the PC patient's faces when it enters. And then of course it'll probably have some fun with the PCs pretending it doesn't know much about humanoid anatomy.

"What are these bits? Do you need them?"

"I'm sorry to tell you your womb is missing. You're a male? Oh, never mind carry on."

Eh, it's just indicative of the Flash Gordon style of storytelling that Lucas was emulating - all planets have one biome and all hutts are gangsters.

Nobody ever confused Lucas for being a good writer, they just are happy he created something that others can improve upon and make fantastic.

It has become abundantly clear that if Lucas had his way with A New Hope it would never be the iconic masterpiece it is today. It would have never had a sequel.

Along with the Hutts pigeon-holed as gangers because of 1 character's backstory they made a whole planet emulate him (with the whole Corellian's being pilots because of Han Solo). I get the frustration.

At the same time that is where Role Playing takes over. How do you play your "gangster" Hutt toon, dynamically if the universe feels they are a gangster? How do you mention you are from Corellia and not get laughed at when you can't pilot a scooter?

This is not unique to this system or even the Star Wars universe. It is all Role Playing/fiction stories ever.

TL;DR, Flash Gordon and George Lucas did not invent thin racial development, it is the norm.
