Lords of Nal Hutta: Hutt Space Sourcebook!

By progressions, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hutt PC, eh? You know someone is going to make a Hutt Pilot - and shoe-horn them into an X-wing. Just for the hilarity of it.

That's a whole different can of worms.

Sometimes a Like doesn't cut it. That deserves a round of applause.

Can hutts applaud? It kind of looks like they can't. I'm picturing a Hutt comedian now: "thank you, thank you, thank you for the big round of slapping your hands against your fat. And by "big round", I'm not talking about Ziro's Mama. Ha ha, just kidding. But seriously try the veal. Oh, you finished the veal? Well then try the waitress! Ha ha! I'm just kidding, please don't eat our twi'leks. What's that? Jabba's in the house? Okay, let me correct myself there - please don't eat ALL our twi-leks. Ha ha! But seriously folks, I'll be here all night? Why? Because that's how long it takes me to get through the door!"

A Hutt entertainer needs to happen!

And still no bounty hunter book. Sigh.

We are never getting a bounty hunter book. My poor Twi'lek Gadgeteer...

On the other hand, sign me up for the Force Sensitive Hutt. I don't have the F&D book just yet, but I like what I have heard about the Artisan.

A Hutt PC definitely makes for some interesting role playing from both the player (if he so actually chooses to play a Hutt) and the GM. I don't know, with each book it seems new gear becomes available .... maybe there is some kind of exoskeleton that looks like an AT-ST walker the Hutt can use :)

Yes!

HUMOR DISCLAIMER!!!!!

Of course, a suspensor belt will be the first thing for an NPC to crit :)

Nah, Force Leap is where it's at! :)Okay, okay, I'm teasing now. But on a more serious note, there is one thing I like about Hutt PCs and the alleged Force-wielding Hutt - hopefully it means someone at FFG wants more variety in the species. If there's one thing about the Star Wars setting that I don't like, it's the severe case of "Planet of the Hats". Some Bothans smuggled out plans for the Death Star? Bothans are a species of spies. Jabba was a gangster? Hutts are crimelords. Han Solo was a smuggler and a fast pilot? Correlia is a planet filled with lovable rogues who are ace pilots...Give me a Hutt Jedi. I don't care how silly it is, just let there be more variety to the race!

Also I think a lot of us are judging a Hutt's capabilities off what we saw in the movies which really isn't much since you never see one try to fight or barely even really move besides them crawling to a stage during the pod races in episode one or through a space port in one of the digital remasteries so we barely see how they move. Also wookepedia talks about corpulence being a sign of prosperity, so a Hutt that is down on his luck and not on top of some vast criminal organization with little money or power may not necessarily be as fatty and slow as those Hutts with wealth. Lastly is the Hutts past where they ruled large portions of the galaxy, so clearly them being physically capable and thus playable as PC's (with all this to considered) doesn't seem as absurd as it does at first glance

First chance I get, I am rolling up a Hutt Ataru Striker.

Yay Hutt Space!

I'm hoping this means the next EoE Career splatbook will be Smugglers!

hutt Jedi aren't that silly though, go google Beldorian, he was just that.

Good points. Jabba should be the equivalent of some fat and successful Roman emperor. I'm picturing popular depictions of Nero, here. There's no reason everyday hutts can't be much slimmer and more muscular. I'm thinking naga or Marillith demon from D&D, here.

Yay Hutt Space!

I'd like something for Technicians. This sourcebook will provides lots of crime ideas and I find technicians to be the weakest career in terms of toys and talents. The technician book should have a lot of interesting ideas and mechanical focused rules which could be good.

I figured this book was coming eventually, just a matter of when.

I'll certainly pick this up. Not entirely sold on the idea of Hutts as a PC race, but I can see the appeal of playing such a character given that they're so unusual, though for me it begins to border on 'special little snowflake' syndrome.

There are plenty of absurd combonations, but really I think a Hutt would make a fun doctor.

I am totally sold on the idea of a Hutt comedian or lounge singer (Colonist:Politico/Performer).

Hutt Colonist/Marshal

Hutt Explorer/Archealolgist

Hutt Explorer'Driver

Hutt Technician/Mechanic

Yeah, there's quite a few oddball combos that you could come up with for Hutts. Will be interesting to see how their species write-up plays out. Personally I'm thinking it's going to be a 3/3/2/2/1/1 deal, with Agility getting a 1 and either Cunning or Willpower getting a 3 (possibly both).

I'd think of playing a Hutt Ataru Striker :) Ooops wrong forum... Sorry, had to do it...

I kind of thought it was coming (the Hutts as a playable species). I quite don't know what made me think of it, but every time I read the Hutt [Nemesis] entry in every Core Rulebook, something in my mind told me I'd see them as playable characters...

I'm excited and think it'll provide a challenge for veterans and GM alike.

Considering that Hutts could most likely have a huge mobility issue, I would not be surprised to see something new with them.

I would think that their Brawn and Willpower will be 3. Agility definitely a 1, probably along with Intellect to keep balance, with Presence and Cunning a 2.

My money is on the Bounty Hunter book being the last of the 6 EotE career books.

It's going to be the most anticipated one.

But look at it this way, in a little more than one year they gave us 3 of the Career books. We'll possibly get the other career books for EotE by the end of 2015.

Now on the disturbing side, I'm picturing a Hutt hedonist forcing Arcona slave girls to lick salt off of his belly.

I cant say that this is unexpected - A Hutt Space sourcebook is the no brainiest of no brainers. I am however pleased at the announcement! The end of the year cant get here soon enough!

Whafrog, couldn't a Baron Harkonnen style repulsor belt be "created" to allow the Hutt to be more physical?

Why? In the CGI version of New Hope Jabba gets to have a chat with Han in the hanger of the Falcon. So the Hutts must be able to move somewhat.

I wonder how you would go with a party full of Hutts?

Maybe called a "grav belt"? ;-)

Hey everyone! I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself. I'm Ryan Brooks, formerly of Fandom Comics with my friend and fellow FFG freelancer Keith Kappel. This was my first freelance writing project with FFG, and I had a blast contributing to the project and collaborating with the other writers. My portion was small, but I still felt like a rock star when writing my sections. I'm so happy they finally announced this book. I can't wait to see what everyone has to say when it finally hits shelves.
