So, how's everyone enjoying their fully released, easily available anywhere Rebel Aces and Wave 5?

By Blail Blerg, in X-Wing

My friends went to Gencon and a bunch of them got these ships. They all seem legit, though the Falcon players in my meta are still beating them.

I have yet to personally play against the Decimator, but it seems cool to both play with and against. Imagine playing against a Falcon, that couldn't evade anything. Id imagine you wanting to quickly Focus Fire quickly, but because it doesn't get a bunch of random evades, you actually feel like you are making headway right away.

I picked up 5 copies of Space Hulk last time. Kept 2, because you cannot make awesome larger board with only one set. Gave a copy away and sold the other two.

Too bad it was not the original version with Deathwing and Genesrealer.

Space hulk sold out here in the UK on the GW site in less than 24hrs.

I guess some people would just prefer not to know what's coming out until it's actually here and on sale.

Ooo look! Space Hulk's getting re-released again! Another limited run! Who knew?

And only £15 more for four whole missions!

Last time they released it in 2009 there were alot more players about I don't think this will sell out anywhere as fast and it may even turn into another dreadfleet.

Now if it had quest that I would of been tempted by.

Here in the UK sold out within 24hrs on the GW site. Already on eBay for £200.

And here's the thing its not the players buying this stuff its the scalpers same thing happened with that shield generator they released.

And the really stupid thing is the PC version is on steam for £20 or something.

Still seems to be available on the US site. My FLGS said they were expecting 20 something copies as well, though I still made sure to get in first on the preorder list...though I have a preorder from the web store I need to figure out how to cancel now too. Not planning to eBay scalp, I want those minis. Been drooling over them for years, so another Space Hulk run was a pleasant surprise. I wasn't into tabletop gaming period when the last one happened.

The PC port is solid and all, and it really nails the cramped atmosphere the board game creates, with those picture-in-picture first person views from the cameras on the terminator suits...but the game loses something in translation. The tension of firing overwatch, will it or won't it jam, down a hall as a giant horde of stealers is rushing you is lost when it's a computer rolling the dice in the background and telling you the result, somehow. And I may have missed a fix for this, as I haven't fired it up in a while, but while it's thematic and all, having to wait for the big slow terminators to move after issuing orders gets to be boring real quick, once the 'aw yeah look at him stomp around' neat factor has worn off.

I enjoy the game itself, but as I said above, I'm mostly into getting a physical set for the miniatures to paint.

Just buy them off ebay for $75. An extra $40 is much cheaper than the $1000 to go to Gencon and buy them.

Or wait until they are released...thats what I am doing...there are plenty of other things to play with in the meantime.

Or just go to GenCon, spend a few hundred dollars on an amazing four days of gaming and get some stuff months early. Let's see, I picked up Wave 5, Rebel Aces, Warhammer Conquest, Star Wars: Empire vs. Rebellion, Pandemic: Contagion, Blueprints, Blue Sun Firefly Expansion and King of New York. None of that is out yet. Brought a bunch back for friends too. All for ~$400 total costs for travel (not including game costs). That and played in the X-Wing nationals. Even if I didn't buy anything it would have been worth the trip, it was awesome.

I hate you so much right now, and not bitchy little anakin hate real pure hate the kind that pulls starships out of the sky, thank you.

:)

That price depends heavily on where you live. If you aren't in the mideast, it is not necessarily cheap to go there (not as popular of a destination as say, LA, Dallas, or NYC). I just priced it for next month to see if it's any different and it's not; it'll cost me a whopping $800 to travel and stay in Indianapolis and there isn't even another reason to visit the city (so my wife will never go).

Not worth it for me.

I am enjoying the anticipation same as most anyone else.

Because once I get my Wave 5, I'm putting all the ramming mods on the Decimator and then driving it like I stole it.

Though I did look at my last year post Gencon Wave 3 orders and my shuttle/hwk/b-wing/bombers got here September 12th.

As I said before, CubanBoy's boat keeps revealing a dial of 1.

I think they gave it a white K turn, and it keeps doing it, over and over and over and over...

Getting there from the mideast is crazy expensive, I'll assume you meant midwest. You could fly to Chicago and drive, that would be cheap(ish). Flying into ORD is not bad from most major metro areas. IND is a small regional airport, so direct flights are spendy, indirect are a little less so. If you can fly in directly to IND you can skip the car tho, so that can help. It all depends on overall cost.

Driving with a few people from Minneapolis is cheap. That's how lots of my friends did it. Flying on miles = best option when you have a gigantic pool of them. That's how I did it, but driving would not have changed the situation much since gas would have been split. It's just a lot less time on the road when you can fly on miles. I used miles to fly two friends, their tickets in cash were not bad. One from MSP, the other from SEA (Seattle). Nothing in the $800 range.

This year was my first, and I'm totally hooked. It has little to do with getting games early, just the whole rest of it. Playing in Nationals. Checking out all the new games. Being at the FFG report. True Dungeon. The whole lot. Getting the early games is very nice too, but that's only a small aspect of it, not the big selling point. I didn't scalp any of it. All the extra stuff I brought back I sold off to local X-Wing players for cost. One set went to a local store that's giving them away as prizes in a tournament in a week. I just wanted to get more Wave 5 into local players hands. Other than the 2 I kept for myself.
