What to buy next to keep my collection "ballanced'

By aaronscho, in X-Wing

So this past month I became addicted to X-wing And have 3 of my friends playing it, while they havent taken the plunge yet i have, so got a couple of ships I liked the look of.

So at the moment my friends are just using my collection, consisting of;

core set x2

A-wing expansion

Lambda shuttle

So i was just wondering what peoples suggestions are as what to buy next for each side to keep it competative and fun?

i was thinging an a Y or B wing for rebels and a deffender for Imps?

(we play 100 pts)

I prefare playing as imperials and once i have it down i will be playing with them mainly at my FLGS

That sounds just fine. Good balance.

You should get a Tie and an X expansion soon though. For the unique pilots.

The powerhouse choices are:

Phantom + Firespray

Falcon + Ewing

Y-WINGS Y-WINGS Y-WINGS Y-WINGS. But seriously, the X-wing expansion and Tie expansion are musts, they get you some of the best pilots in the game for those 2 ships (Wedge, and Howlrunner). People love b-wings, I'm not a big fan of them, I'd take a y-wing over b-wing. Firesprays are loved on the imp side of things, as well as interceptors/imperial aces. It's really up to you, but DO NOT GET AN ADVANCED. Horribly unbalanced ship that is way overcosted.

Balance? You want balance? Then you should just plan on buying one of...

I think I will get an X and a Tie next, but my wallet screams at me when i could just get anouther core !!!

need to think about the pilots when paying

You need tie defenders like lots of them.

Everything and anything, in multiple amounts.

Except for Advanced. At best get one for Sith Dark Lord action, but everything else has its uses.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with your plan. Every ship has its uses; go with what seems most fun for you.

I may consider avoiding turrets at first since they can slow down the development of your flying skills, but, on the other hand, Han Solo.

Mostly, welcome to the game. It's a lot of fun. What do you and your friends enjoy most? Different ships will reward different play styles.

The thing is, Ties are virtually useless without Howlrunner, and she comes in the Tie expansion, not the core. Wedge, and Garven are boss, and are staples to many lists but they come in X-wing expansion, not core.

You and me both friend! This game is pretty awesome.

I bought in hard, but I had some birthday money and I sold a guitar, so I had the cash to spend on something I wanted. I bought in with a fair size chunk, and have added to my collection twice in the last three months. Here's what I now have in total:

-Core Set x 3... Got 2 initially, then I added a third. They're the best deal on X-Wings and Tie Fighters, plus extras of all the stuff you need

-X-wing x 1... You must have Wedge. Must have.

-Tie Fighter x 2... There are some necessary pilots in that pack too, and getting up to 8 ties is pretty rad. I now have 8 ties, and will be trying out the Tie swarm, but getting at least one of these is important.

-Y-wing x 3... I bought one initially, but the R2 astromech is great, as is the ship with an Ion turret. One is probably enough for most, but 2 is better.

-Tie Advanced x 2... You would probably be fine with only 1, or perhaps none of these.

-Millenium Falcon x TBA... I cannot find one of these for the life of me. I will get one to start, and we'll see how it goes from there.

-Slave 1 x 2... Started with 1, added another because of how great they are. HLC for the win. Must have.

-A-Wing x 4... They didn't have any when I got my initial batch, but I realized quickly that I wanted more than 2 of these. I will be up to 6 after getting 2 Rebel Aces, so I'll likely never use all of them, but I will use them in flights for Epic play.

-Tie Interceptor x 2... I got two of these used, and I'm really glad. Soontir is the bomb. This is a must have, and my second favourite ship in the game.

-HWK-290 x 2... I got 1 initially, and I added a 2nd cause I could. You could probably only do with 1 of these. Not a must have, but it works well as a support ship in larger point games.

-Lamda Shuttle x 2... Initially I didn't get any of these. Then I learned how useful they could be, so I got 2 when I could, and I'm glad I did. 1 is probably enough for most.

-B-wing x 2... I got these off the bat and wish I had 3. I am excited for Rebel Aces, because then I'll have 4 of these bad boys. I will likely get 2 more, because in Epic format I'll want more than 4.

-Tie-Bomber x 3... Another one that I only got 1 of initially. Not a must have for multiples, but I'll get up to 4 for Epic play, and perhaps up to 6 if there's some sort of Aces pack.

-Imperial Aces x 2... 4 total ships, and they're awesome. At least 1 is a must have in my books, especially because of the connection I made with the standard interceptor.

-Rebel Transport x 1... Not necessary at all, but really cool. I love that it came with another x-wing and pilots, which are more useful to me than the Transport is.

-Tantive-IV x 1... My most recent acquisition, and it looks amazing. Not necessary unless you plan for epic play like me. I wish it had come with a small fighter like the Transport did, because I feel like the cost doesn't equal out. Having the Han, Lando, Leia and 3PO crew cards are pretty handy though.

-Z-95 x 4... I was thinking about going in all the way and getting 8 of these, but after playing a bit I don't think I'm into swarms. 4 is the perfect amount in my books, because it allows you to use them as filler in squads

-Tie Defender x 3... I got 2 initially, and then picked up another used. Haven't used them much. 2 is good enough I think.

-Tie Phantom x 3... I got 2 initially, and loved it so much I got a third. My favourite ship right now. Must have!!!!

-E-wing x 3... I got 1 initially, and wished I had more, so I got more. Totally worth it, because these are like a cross between an X-wing and and an A-wing without being a straight up replacement for either. Very versatile ship (support, flanker, jouster) depending on what you need. Must have.

There you go.

Well you got shuttl so the HWK-290 can be the utility counterpart.

As for the A-wing then Tie Interceptors.

That looks pretty good, but I'd rather have ol' Darthy and 3 Tempests with only two Proton Rockets and a Swarm Tactics.

After shooting off those Rockets, you're pretty weak on power.

I'll echo the recommendation to buy the X-Wing and TIE Fighter expansions - the extra pilots and upgrades will give even your existing ships extra versatility.

On the other hand, unless you're playing Tournaments, you could just do like me and buy whatever you like the look of :)

You know if you find the number of ships you have is unbalanced just pick one up and throw it down the reactor core to restore that balance
