Sandstorm Throw Enhance

By apelila, in UFS Rules Q & A

Sandstorm Throw

E: Name a card. Your opponent may not play the named card during this attack's Enhance Phase.

Will this prevent my opponent from playing cards in their stagin area, or just action cards from their hand?

by playing it means playing into the card pool.

Incorrect.

It will prevent the play of abilities of cards in the staging area.

i disagree, it reads

E: Name a card. Your opponent may not play the named card during this attack's Enhance Phase.

if it stopped cards in the staging area wouldnt it say something like, May not play abilities on that card?

Yeah Goth if that's how the card actually works then it is one of the most poorly worded cards in UFS. Taking the card verbatem it says that your opponant can't PLAY cards with that name. Not abilites on that card if it's already in play.

I'll go back to Hata again to clarify, we talked about this a couple of months ago.

This may be one of the candidates for functional errata.

but arent you playing that cards abilities when its in your staging area?

a card and a card's abilities are not the same thing.

A card is, well, a card. And a card's abilities is an ability belonging to a card.

If you can't talk to Jen, you can't talk to Jen.

But if Jane belongs to Jen (can be a daughter or lover, your choice) then you can talk to Jane.

I know its a wierd comparison but you get the idea.

Is somewhere in the AGR "playing a card" defined as playing it into your cardpool?

Then again this opens up that whole Olcadan vs Alba thing with "playing a form"....

Sounds like functional errata is the answer if the card is supposed to prevent playing of abilities from cards in staging area, as well as things like rejection.

James and I chatted about this.

Originally I thought the purpose of the E was to faciliate you being able to protect your Command the Sandstorm from Bitter Rivals.

I was wrong. It was simply meant to tell Rejection where to go.

So my original answer above was incorrect.

Standstorm throw only stops E's from action cards.

seems like it should atleast be "until end of turn" instead of "this combat phase" at least then you could also keep them from blocking.

Although i guess with a few of them that could get dirty...
