Named Phantoms: Experience vs. PS

By bubblepopmei, in X-Wing

I'm torn between Echo and Whisper. Which of my girls to bring along with Kath and Doom for my first, albeit casual tournament.

Do I want Whisper and Kath both shooting at PS 9, or is my vastly greater experience with Echo alright with her at PS 8?

WHISPER! If you have the points always take Whisper. He's a higher PS and he's more survivable which is the key with phantoms.

If you're not sure then take Whisper. Taking Echo to a tournament if you're aren't really, really comfy with her movement is a bad idea.

My experience is exclusively with Echo. She's my Phantom but her PS leaves her open to Han and others.

I only use Echo when I can't afford Whisper.

Whisper+VI.

Move last, shoot first.

Echo, even against Han and the like. Usually the only casualty on my side, and even then able to hand out the hurt before hand. The movement mechanics are amazing against none turrets and can easily carry you to a win if you are familiar with them.

Whisper+VI.

Move last, shoot first.

Make that Whisper+VI+ACD.

Move last, shoot first, and cloak after your shot.

Out of the two I have more success with echo.

Even against Han builds.

I find whisper decloak is more predictable, but she shoots first before some, so therefore she recloak faster.

Echo on the other hand is just hard to pinpoint, unless your against turrets.

Anything else with the exception of Fel, she is a beast

Overall I find whisper gets shot at more over echo.

I'm still really torn on the issue. I'll need to get some practice in with Whisper. I've never used her before and the non-Echo Phantoms just seem very limited. I might opt for Echo because I know how to fly her well.

This is what I've got so far:

100 points
"Echo” (35)
TIE Phantom (30), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)
Omicron Group Pilot (24)
Lambda-Class Shuttle (21), Darth Vader (3)
Kath Scarlet (41)
Firespray-31 (38), Veteran Instincts (1), Tactician (2)

I think Whisper is theoretically MUCH better. The free focus, and the PS really help.. however...

I think you should go with Echo, cuz you're good at it and I want to see you put up results for Echo! =)

A little experience might help too. Whisper's decloaks are much more limited than Echo, and that might throw you off.

If you are confident with echo, fly Echo. Whisper is the allround champion, he's easy to fly, high ps, free focus, but Echo brings something that Whisper doesn't. Unpredictable decloak action. If you aren't confused by the decloak yourself, then Echo rewards good flying more, especially if you don't run into a falcon.

If I manage to get a few games in before the event, I'll try Whisper. Two ps 9s and a doom shuttle is tempting, but I need flight hours with Whisper before I pick her.

You want the higher PS, like you i love echo and her hard to predict moves but you want to minimize how many can shoot at your phantom so whisper+VI just wins.

My experience is exclusively with Echo. She's my Phantom but her PS leaves her open to Han and others.

Echo's fine, just build with Han in mind Rebel Captive, Jammer, ACD... send all your support right in Han's face and try to keep Echo at range 3+ from Han.

whoops! ACD!

If you can work Echo, you can work Whisper. Echo is far tougher to fly well, and is a lot less forgiving. I wouldn't say Whisper is necessarily better or worse than Echo, but the better ease of use speaks for itself sometimes,

I plan on flying only Echo since I've logged a lot more hours on her. Tried Whisper and she is super hard to kill but very easy to predict and block. I tend to suggest playing what you're good at flying and something different. If you face a falcon, just do your best with your escorts and take some chances. You win some and lose some, but at least you'll have fun flying.:-)
