I. Love. Captain. Jonus. So. Much! I just kicked butt in a tournament with this:

Should i make any tweaks?

Swarm Tactics/Squad Leader + Flechette Torpedoes/Seismic Charge. Choose according to your preferences.
yes, i had a lot of succes with that list, but not lately. Beware of flankers. I played yesterday against a guy who changed the torpedo for the seimic, and used it very well.
Edited by sigidiYeah, I've been told a seismic would be good in my list...
Edited by tiefanaticI haven't looked at the points but is there room for Munitions Failsafe on Jonus? If he carries multiple Flechettes it may not be as important but if that 3 die stressor misses it may be nice to get more shots at it.

No room for MF. ![]()
I just run him with predator, that way he is actually a menace for those times you don't want to fly on formation.
Edited by DreadStarI'd do one of two options.
1) Bump the Deltas up to Onyx so they live a bit longer possibly and don't get hurt by predator as much.
2) Change squad leader to swarm tactics
I was looking at a very similar squad, but with wingman on Jonus to allow some tight turns on the defenders.

They way I play this list The bomber can stay in formation up until the 1st K-turn. After that, there's very little chance you'll get into range for 1 wingman and until then it's not really needed, from my point of view.
Like I said, I was looking at it, not played it yet...

No. Defenders need PS 1 so they can pull of the 4K.
Yep, tried the PS3, and really, it is not worth it. PS1 is the best for the defender,
You also get to make good choices about those focus tokens, defenders are quite beefy with them.
Edited by DreadStarI tried Jonus+Predator, Delta+HLC x2 once on vassal (vs Kath+RC,Predator, Fel+TC, PTL, and Dark Curse I think). I won if I remember correctly, but it was close regardless.
The deltas got chewed up pretty badly by my opponent's Predator, it made me wish I went with the Onyx instead.

NAILED IT!
Nasty little list. Deny a flank during deployment so that the opponent can only come at you one of two ways - head on (which they really don't want to do) or from one side (which you can adjust the angle for and hamper the approach for with asteroids during pre-game placement).
Ironic that Imperials are now doing three-ship build better than the Rebels?
It's a very tough list. But I beat it last night with 3 Blue B's w/Advanced Sensors, and Kyle Katarn passing out focuses to buff them.
The main disadvantage of the Defender list is that it's crippled if you take out one ship. With only two ships that can do serious damage, it can't afford to lose a Defender early. I was able to do that (for the record, I'm tiefanatic's father), and at that point, it was really just a matter of time. 3 Bs assisted by Kyle felt like a mismatch.
And I don't like flying Bs, because I prefer maneuver. But wow, is that list tough. So much damage being thrown out.

Ah, man... you missed a golden opportunity there...

I used to run this, but the formation flying cost me a few games and made me mad. I got turned on to an article over at Team Covenant that had me tweak my list to the following:
Mauler: Targeting Computer and Squad Leader
Delta: HLC
Vessery: HLC
Mauler passes target lock actions to the Delta at range band 2-3 which leaves you with two HLC's focused and tl'd. You don't have to fly in formation to keep Vessery going either. Another bonus is that a Tie fighter k-turns 4 or 3 which keeps it in formation if you choose to, as opposed to Captain Jonus who only has a 5. Mauler also rolls 4 dice at range 1 and Vessery still can modify his range 1 attacks with a focus and a tl. All in all the big bonus is not being committed to formation, modifying range 1 attacks, rolling 12 dice at range 2-3 and 16 at range 1, having pilot skills 7-6-1 to get the jump on lower ships, if you lose 1 ship you're always throwing at least 6 dice or 8 depending on who is left and what range you're at with Mauler, and staying in formation during a kturn. Major drawbacks are losing the 3 hp on the switch from bomber to tie, and anything that can prevent you from target locking to pass to Vessery.

That's not a bad list, but Mauler will get blown up extremely quickly if the opponent focus fires at him. And, as i said, Defenders NEED pilot skill 1.
Vessery is fine, because he can get a free modified dice roll with target lock, being able to keep their focus, even tho this would make people ignore him and go for the other defender to remove its focus before it gets to shoot (it makes target priority easier for your opponent).
The problem lies within the assumption that having captain Jonus forces you to play in formation. HLC defenders are quite good withouth Jonus, he just makes for amazing alpha strikes, but if you do not need or it is not recomended to fly in formation, you don't need to. It is also the reason why i use Jonus with predator (and because 99 points give me an iniative bid against swarms, which i felt like i really need, so i can move first).
I have killed 3 b-wings with 2 HLC defenders no problem, you have to understand that your main advantadge is being able to bump them, and then 4kturn while they 2kturn, getting into range 3, where you have 4 dice, and they keep their 1. Focusing Jonus, while it is not that bad option, doesn't suddenly make HLC defenders bad. You could even play a doomshuttle 2 HLC defender list and get surprised with the results.
