Petition against NetrunnerDB Cease & Desist

By Volstruis, in Android: Netrunner The Card Game

I think you meant hypocritical. Hippocratic is something else entirely.

I don't feel that FFG are being unreasonable. Why detail a Netrunner thread with a complaint about a whole different game? If you're just trying find grist for some bad-guy narrative, then that's not a conversation I'm interested in having.

I really appreciate the NetrunnerDB site, it is such a high quality interface.

Well, I feel like the non-responsiveness to it's customers (us) has gone on long enough. I'm done with Netrunner. I had high hopes, I still have 14k cards from the original game that Wizards did. I'll just keep playing that edition.

So long Netrunner, it's sad that Fantasy Flight Games had to come along and tease Netrunner fans with a decent attempt and then screw over interested fans.

If you want to sell your promos let me know.

Wow, that took a lot longer to dig out the cards and try to get back into the game then I thought.

But I'm going to take another stab at learning this game.

Bought the latest data pack.

Grimwalker, this is an excellent article.

Sign. <Sigh> it’s my own **** fault.

This news comes on the back of the rotation announcement, http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1264890/rotation/page/7 , and a powerhouse combo of disappointment. My first reaction is simply... ( °□° )╯ ┻━┻

It turns out I just suck at NetRunner. I don't care though, I love the setting and the mechanics that I'm unfortunately unable to grok at any sort of competitive level. I've purchased everything possible up to the Lunar Cycle, but there's this nagging issue I've been unable to articulate over the last few months. Why am I spending all this money on cards that largely just sit in a box while I fumble with the most basic of mechanics and beg friends to play with me? There's no organized play in my area and only a handful of friends that are uneager to get monetarily involved into another non-MTG card game.

It's my alterior motives here that have made me ignore the fact that LCGs are meant to be a constant revenue stream for FFG (said in a positive tone), but a system intended to eliminate frustrations with random distribution schemes. I come from Magic as a casual player that's sorely disappointed with random distribution and the realization that you can simply buy a winning deck. When I found NetRunner and LCGs, I felt like I was buying more of a board game and all the players were on level ground, ignoring the fact that there would always be more cards to come. I made LCGs out to be what they weren't and all this news is finally making it sink in.

Rotation is great and will keep the game fresh, but for a casual player that struggles to get play time in, eventually keeping up with the available card pool will feel like Magic again. Accept that I can go down to the store and pay $15 for an MTG deck that comes with tips on how to utilize the mechanics and strategy being focused on in that particular deck. My only saving grace right now is NDB and other clone sites to spare me the required endless hours to build something cohesive to play at the table.

I don't feel like FFG is this money hungry evil-doer. The company is made up of a bunch of great people trying to keep a fun game relevant for everyone. It's unfortunate that there's no alternatives that could help me out but I accept that it's no one’s responsibility to do that but me, and if I truly enjoy the game, I'll press on. Buying every data pack was stupid and I'll enjoy the cards I have, probably picking up a new pack here or there.

FFG - Any help with digital deck building tools would be greatly appreciated.

What? This happened months ago. This thread started in September. Rotation was announced at Worlds in November.

NetrunnerDB is currently up and running again (though FFG may still decide to enforce the C&D at a future date they've not done so yet, for NRDB or Jinteki.net).

Yep, CommissarFeesh, I meant news to me and shouldn't have tied it to their announcement to the world.

I'm actually thinking the NRDB issue is a dead letter. FFG did their due diligence in issuing a Cease & Desist. Netrunner the game is actually WOTC property, so maybe it's on the copyright owner to decide whether they want to pursue it further.

I'm in the same boat minus having all the data packs... Hang in there

There's no organized play in my area.

Are you sure about that? Where do you live?

Sorry Stevepop,

I didn't do the multiquote correctly from JoshuaBelden. I have organized play in my area. But I have a similar situation with everything else...

NetrunnerDB is back up. I am back in. I'm really glad that FantasyFlightGames made the right choice by their fans... Of course now I have to wait till tax time to get caught up with 3-packs per release... ****. It's gonna be expensive.

...do people just not follow the netrunner news or something? The site has been back up for ages. FFG have not, to my knowledge, rescinded the C&D. Alsciende just decided to put the site back up anyway.
