Shadow Soul question

By Schmiegel, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

The "Faithful Friend" skill card allows you to "place a Shadow Soul" in a space within 3 spaces of you." But what if the Shadow Soul has already been placed previously? Would it need to have been discarded before "Faithful Friend" could be used again? (The familiar card lists the Shadow Soul's speed as 1, so it can move on its own..).

It seems like in order to use Faithful Friend after the familiar had already been placed would be effectively "discarding" it prior to placing it again. But only the "Shadow Step" and "Dark Servant" skill cards in the Shadow Walker class explicitly give permission to discard the Shadow Soul.

By contrast, the "Bound by the Hunt" skill card in the Beastmaster skill class explicitly states that you can discard your Wolf familiar token at any time during your turn..

I had been playing it that a Shadow Walker could exhaust "Faithful Friend" at the beginning of every turn to place the Shadow Soul within three spaces. But then it becomes hardly necessary to ever use "Soul Bound" (the base skill card that Shadow Walkers get at the beginning of the game for free). So I'm starting to think I was playing it wrong, although I may simply be over thinking this...

How do others play this? Thanks in advance!

When you re-summoned it, you take it from the current space and put it into the new one

I can't be discarded at will like the beastmaster or necromancer to avoid the endless void combo, that's all

Yes. Imagine faithful friend having the text "remove the shadow soul from its current space (if it's on the map) and place it within 3 spaces of you." It doesn't say that though, because it's wordy, and might also lead you to believe the shadow soul would have to be on the map already to use faithful friend, which isn't the case.

Faithful friend is useful because the soul only has a speed of 1. The shadow walker can resummon the shadow soul on an attack, but what if they miss? Faithful friend let's you move the shadow soul a large distance without taking a chance so that other heroes can benefit from it's presence.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Much appreciated. It turns out I have been playing it correctly then. Good to know.
