Ethereal Wisdom

By SynnerG, in Warhammer 40,000: Conquest - Rules Questions

Should be simple, but double checking for rule book evidence. So Ethereal Wisdom lets a Tau unit gain +1 ATK and the Ethereal trait. You can then attach to said unit the Honor Blade. But at the end of the phase, the Ethereal card wears off. So does the Honor Blade automatically pop off into the discard pile as the requirement is no longer met? If so, then really the only way that combo could work is if you have the Ambush Platform to add attachments in the combat phase. Just making sure I get these card interactions right.

RRG page 3, Attachments

If a situation arises in which an attachment is not
legally attached, discard the attachment.

I think that's stretching it a bit, Toq.

I cannot locate this card "Honor Blade" using cardgamedb.com, but I think the rule you are referring to is more about if a unit ceases to become a unit...therefore having an attachment on a support, for example.

I'd like to see the card in question.

The honour blade and ethereal wisdom were spoiled as part of an upcoming pack. Honour blade can only be attached to an ethereal. Whisk Ethereal wisdom can make s a card an serial ethereal but only temporarily. When the unit stops being an ethereal the honour blade does indeed fall of off due to the rule tow toq quoted, they're there is no possible other reading of that rule.

Edited for bad autocorrect but mistakes left with strikethrough as testimony to check any post you make from your phone :/

The cards can be found here: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=5013

It is a valid combo but as I previously stated it only works temporarily as once Ethereal Wisdom wears off the unit would no longer be an Ethereal.

Commisar, I'm not sure if you're speed-typing on a device that liberally uses auto-correct, but your grammar mistakes are hard to follow. Just FYI - in a forum where grammar is lawyer-precise, errors can make arguments invalid or nonsensical. Thanks.

Oh god, yeah, that was my phone. That's bloody awful, sorry. I can't decide if I should go back and edit that or let it stand as tribute to the perils of autocorrect.

Edit.

If the only time you are allowed to add a support card such as a weapon to a unit is in the deploy phase, how can I attach say this blade to my warlord, if the warlord is not played at all during deploy phase, but the Command phase??

Is it attached to the warlord as he sits in his headquarters?

The term "deploy" does not automatically assume that the card you are playing goes to a planet. Units are deployed at planets, but Supports are deployed to your HQ and Attachments are deployed onto characters that are "in play." It doesn't matter, for the attachment, where the unit is, so long as it is in play. There is nothing stopping you from deploying attachments onto units in your HQ.

(Also, note that there are card effects, like the Tau warlord in the core set, that allow you to add attachments outside of the Deploy phase.)

The Tau Ambush Platform can also sneak out a card in the Combat Phase.

if the warlord is not played at all during deploy phase, but the Command phase?

The Warlord is always in play and is eligible to have attachments on them while in play at HQ.
