Modifying Dice

By auggiedog, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I've only been playing the game for about a month and I have a question: When it comes to modifying Attack Dice, the rules state that the Defender can modify the dice before the Attacker does. What are some examples of a Defender modifying the Attack Dice? Are there abilities out there I have yet to see?

The same goes for modifying Defence Dice. What are some examples of an Attacker modifying the Defence Dice (who can modify before the Defender)? Again, I haven't played with ships/cards that would allow me to do either, unless I'm missing something...

Abilites that allow the Defender to modify Attack Dice:
Elusiveness (EPT)
Sensor Jammer (System)

R7-Astromech (Astromech)

(R4-D6 (Astromech) - sorta, cancels >2 hits)
(R2-F2 (Astromech) - storta, raises Agility)

(Dark Curse (T/F) - sorta, disallows rerolling and Focus)
(Carnor Jax (T/I) - sorta, disallows Focus and Evade at Range 1)

Abilites that allow the Attacker to modify Evade Dice:

(Homing Missile (Missile) - sorta, disallows Evade)
(Intimidation (EPT) - sorta, reduces Agility if base-to-base)
(Outmaneuver (EPT) - sorta, reduces Agiilty if outside firing arc)
(Wedge Antilles (X-Wing) - sorta, reduces Agility)

(Carnor Jax (T/I) - sorta, disallows Focus and Evade at Range 1)

What ships/expansions have you got so far? It might give us all an idea of what you've got in your upgrades. Just in case we give you advice and examples of cards you haven't seen yet. Just trying to avoid confusing you at this stage.

Doesn't it have to be in the sequence as defined in the core rules?

Roll attack dice

Modify attack dice - spend action tokens (Focus) and abilities that reroll or modify attack dice results - character abilities and secondary weapon abilities?.

Roll defence dice

Modify defence dice - spend evade/focus tokens and abilities that allow for a reroll or modify dice results.

DICE can only be re-rolled twice in any combat phase.

DICE can only be re-rolled twice in any combat phase.

Twice? Source?

Dice can only be rerolled once in a combat phase. If I, as the defender, force you to reroll an attack die, the attacker may not reroll that dice. That's what makes Tarn Mison + R7 so damaging. He can force the attacker to reroll dice, which then cannot be rerolled. Same with Elusiveness.

One of my favorite setups is:

Ibtisam + Elusiveness + Sensor Jammer

In this case, the attack rolls dice. Then you turn one HIT to an EYE, which cannot be rerolled (as per the card). Then you force them to reroll another hit, which can't be rerolled because it's already been rerolled. Then she has a stress, so she can reroll her defense die if she doesn't get an evade.

Abilites that allow the Defender to modify Attack Dice:

Elusiveness (EPT)

Sensor Jammer (System)

R7-Astromech (Astromech)

(R4-D6 (Astromech) - sorta, cancels >2 hits)

(R2-F2 (Astromech) - storta, raises Agility)

(Dark Curse (T/F) - sorta, disallows rerolling and Focus)

(Carnor Jax (T/I) - sorta, disallows Focus and Evade at Range 1)

Abilites that allow the Attacker to modify Evade Dice:

(Homing Missile (Missile) - sorta, disallows Evade)

(Intimidation (EPT) - sorta, reduces Agility if base-to-base)

(Outmaneuver (EPT) - sorta, reduces Agiilty if outside firing arc)

(Wedge Antilles (X-Wing) - sorta, reduces Agility)

(Carnor Jax (T/I) - sorta, disallows Focus and Evade at Range 1)

None of those things even 'sorta' modifies your opponents dice after they've been rolled. The 'Defender modifies attack dice' and 'Attacker modifies defense dice' steps are distinct parts of an attack that have nothing to do with outside effects that alter agility or prevent the user from modifying their own dice.

Currently, there are only those three cards that trigger in the "Defender Modifies Attacker's dice" step, and there are 0 abilities(unless there's something in Wave 5 I missed) that let the attacker do anything to the rolled results of the defender's dice; that step is listed in the rules for an attack just for clarity for whenever we actually get something that does that.

Thanks!

Which precisely say that once a die has already been rerolled, it cannot be rerolled again.

So, only once reroll per die.
