Both Whose Turn Is It and Dragon's Lair here in Austin, Texas had copies on the shelves this past week.

Edited by progressionsI had never ordered before from Miniature Market. Learned something from my credit card statement.
Got billed on August 29th. I suppose Amazon has spoiled me, as they never bill your credit card until they ship.
/cries again
This was my first order ever from Miniatures Market. So far I'm not inclined to use them again. I won't necessarily hold ship time against them, as that might not be there fault. If they haven't received the books yet they obviously can't send them. I'm not impressed with them charging me before sending the product, and they don't have an easy way to cancel or modify an order that I can see.
Now I am mostly blind, so it's certainly possible I'm missing something on the screen, but nothings leaps out. Like previous posters, I may be spoiled a bit by Amazon.

For online ordering I think it's pretty standard that that you get charged when the product ships. If that isn't MM policy then I think they are one of the rare merchants who do that.
Miniature Market charges when the order is placed, rather than when it ships. I may be in the minority, but I prefer this method because if I decide to pre-order for a product that isn't going to be released for a significant amount of time, the item is already paid for. This way, I don't get surprised by a charge on my account for a pre-order that I had forgotten about.

I also prefer it this way. it makes it my budget easier to manage when it's already spent.
I ended up order from MM because the shipping quote from FFG's webstore was ludicrous - 50% of the cost of the book. So I'm willing to wait a little.
It's also interesting to note that the book still has the trucking icon on the Upcoming page and it's been 4 days since 9/12. I'm thinking there's been a delay somewhere in the shipping as a whole. Some places have gotten it but enough haven't which has prevented FFG from updating it to the in store icon (which they're usually really on top of)
Huh, Cool Stuff Inc doesn't even have a listing for it.

My only concern would be - what if something goes wrong and you need to chargeback? If you preordered well outside of your card's 90 day window, you're boned.
Actually, I seem to recall somewhere that most credit card companies have rules in place saying that you (the merchant) cant charge against something that isnt going to ship straight away. Mind you, I only vaugely remember that - so I might be dead wrong.
I still think it's a bad policy, and one of the reasons I'm reluctant to preorder from them. The other, of course, being that it seems to take forever for them to ship.

That's a valid concern. I've never been in that situation, nor have I have I ever had to back out of a pre-order, but I've seen some pretty positive stories about MM's customer service. If you needed your money back, I suspect it should be as simple as a phone call and some information to verify yourself to get that money back.
MM always strikes me a pretty repetuable, so I doubt the need for a chargeback would ever crop up. However, I'm always at maximum paranoia in regards to credit cards, just for CYA purposes. . . .

I'm no expert but to defend these online vendors, the process of "holding" the funds for such things as pre-orders is rather complex because it involves something called pre-authorization. Pre-authorizations usually expire within 5-30 days and then require the merchant to get reauthorization.
I think a lot of these online merchants are probably trying to reduce their own headaches regarding holding the funds on someone's bank account/credit card.
I'm also not sure how accepting Paypal can affect things but it seems that a lot of the big merchants like Amazon don't accept PayPal payments while guys like Cool Stuff Inc and Miniature Market do.
Anyways, just thought I'd offer the flipside of the coin regarding this. The practice of charging full price for a pre-order isn't entirely crazy. I know my local FLGS does it.

Shipped .
Looks like it's out of pre-order status at Miniature Market! FFG's website still shows a shipping/truck symbol. I imagine it's slowly arriving to stores.
Mine has shipped as well from MM! Now patient I must be
Awesome. I'll probably swing down that way and pick mine up tomorrow.
Got my shipped e-mail as well!
