Force Sensitive Exile Talent Tree - I'm missing something...

By edwardp, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I tried to search for the answer, but couldn't quite find what I was looking for.

Page 277, at the top right of the Force Sensitive Exile Talent tree, it marks certain talents as: Force Sensitives only. For example, Insight is a talent allowed for Force Sensitives only. Whereas Forager, is not.

By default, don't you become a Force Sensitive automatically when you take the Force Sensitive? Furthermore, page 275, last paragraph states: "...Additional limitations to becoming Force sensitive as well. For example, the Droid species cannot become Force sensitive... Because of this these species cannot become Force sensitive, they cannot select the Force Sensitive Exile Specialization".

I'm unclear of denoting certain talents in this tree as Force sensitive only.

Thanks!

Short answer: Not being, or being able to become force sensitive doesn't prevent you from taking the Spec if that's what you want to spend your XP on. So a droid can still TAKE some Force sensitive specs they just don't get the FR1 or the ability to use force talent (though they still must buy those talents if they wish to access something lower in the tree...

It's more relevant when you start talking Force and Destiny Specs where the Careers provide an FR1, but not he Specs. So your Human Smuggler:Pilot can double down the F&D Starfighter Ace Spec, but until her also takes Emergent or Exile he won't have FR1. Unlike the droid example however if your human buys those force talents and then later takes Exile or Emergent all the force stuff immediately starts working...

Also, because some of those Talents, like Forager, are also present on other trees...

Talents could be placed on any tree, if a homebrew one, or new ones put out by FFG. The requirement of being Force Sensitive would allow the Talent on some random tree, but be unusable by anyone that hasn't taken a Spec/Career to be Force Sensitive.

There may also be some odd situations where the Force is suppressed - either in an individual or over an area - and such Talents are temporarily unusable.

Ysalimary for example.

Realistically though, when you get this Universal Specialisation, you get Force Rating 1 anyway. I had the same confusion though, so I know where your question comes from.

However, as someone pointed out above, the ones that don't have the "Force Sensitive Only" star burst icon are ones available on other talent trees for other career specialisations.

The reason for the designation specifically I think has more to do with how the talents are described in the chapter, rather than on the trees. There are many talents that are found in multiple specialization trees (Brace, Dedication, Well Rounded, etc.), so instead of having a separate descriptor for each, they just have one. As such, the Force-sensitive only talents are also found in this list, but require a special designation to indicate that they are only available to force sensistives or to someone with a FR of 1 or more.

I think this is in part as some pieces of equipment grant their user an innate talent, such as a sniper scope. In this case, I would presume that force-sensitive only talents cannot be granted by equipment upgrades.
