Previously I mentioned that I was going to support a local game shop and placed a reserve order for it, probably about 2 months ago.

So last night, I was locked out of the house (long story, Oberonificantly boring!) and decided I'd cruise over there and elsewhere to kill some time till my wife came back from her meeting.

The store was in the next town over, another 'Downriver' suburb of Detroit called Taylor, "Shenanigans", which seemed like the typical hobby/game stores I remember from ages ago - yes, dear ones, "Obie" used to play Cosmic Encounter, Talisman, Mystic Woods and other games, starting from the late '70s.

Same somewhat geeky clerk (busy painting miniatures, I might add), same young to middle-age geeks playing some game in an adjacent room, with pizza slices laying about from the Jets Pizza, conveniently next door, etc.

The clerk was nice enough and said that he would check the release date on the FFG site and deduced he would have it within a couple of days of that or possibly a week later. He said the site said the 17th, but I don't remember that (he might have been looking at the site someone mentioned a couple of days ago). So he said 2 weeks, to be safe (September 24, I guess)

I just ordered my copy off of Amazon. The store selling it had it for $32.97 and free shipping. I also had a $2.00 credit to Amazon, so I was able to buy it for $30.97.

Well, I didn't do my homework well enough; I emailed a reserve to a local shop near my home. After more than a week, someone responded, mostly, but did not really indicate anything; will they let me know, etc.

So I dropped over there, about 2 weeks ago (I remember posting about it) and it was semi-lame. The clerk seemed mostly indifferent, not unfriendly but not really helpful.

I called them last week, maybe on the 17th, since I was going with that as the possible date of release and some have said the stores actually get them in advance of the release.

No such luck, on the phone. Didn't have it. Asked them to indicate when they thought or might have it and I was told this week, the 25th (Thursday)

My thoughts are to go there or call. If they don't have it, I'll seek the immediate other option (another store, closer to where I work, which I got Firelands at earlier this year).

They can't sue me or anything for not fulfilling on the reserve. Why bother anymore? I have done Amazon or online in the past, but I wanted to make a statement of support to a local store.

If it turns out to be a not-so FLGS then they only have themselves to blame...

FLGS.... is that friendly larp game store? probably not 'larp'.

duh, thanks for that. I 'm sure I'll go back to the one I got Firelands at, but I will be fair and give the other one a chance.

After all, as many here know, my co player usually can "delay" the pleasure of a new expansion a bit longer than me.

Even if I get it today or in a few days we won't play till at least the weekend - - or longer (gosh darnit).

I'll be sitting on the couch going through all the cards, etc and she'll be rolling her eyes at me. She likes to play, don't get me wrong, but there's never a flaming passion for it, like me. I am sad (or pathetic, at least to her)

My copy came in the mail today!
