what's yours is mine epic finish.

By thedremak, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

After some well played dash cards and well placed ironbound, we found ourselves with Du'lak 2 spaces from the exit with 2 life left and only Roganna (stalker) within range to attack. Still equipped with Black widows Web she drops a trap and marks Du'lak hoping that the extra surge might Trigger immobilize if not kill him. Overlord plays plot card iron - hard scales to add to shields to his 2 gray dice. Blocked. Roganna attacks again, another block but barely so Roganna plays power potion to reroll, then only needing one more heart or surge plays fortuna's dice and ends up doing one damage. That was the first hero but like I said no one else was in range to attack until the heroes remember widow Tarha's heroic feat. So the other 2 heroes clear a path so she has line of sight albeit from 19 away and uses her feat and rolls an x, she has the ability to reroll, and........ another x. Du'lak escapes with the aurium.....

Heroes:

Roganna as the Stalker

Reynhart as beastmaster

Widow Tarha as Runemaster

Rendiel as Bard

overlord

Basic 1 on the warlord path

Dragons Greed plot deck.

Heroes win intro and masquerade ball (thanks to black widows Web immobilize)

Overlord won what's yours is mine.

heroes all still have starting weapons but of them have armor. Chain mail, runeplate, leather

Interesting map but is it even possible to get a hit from 19 away? If you are using heroic feat of the widow you still need to get range to both targets. The only way I can think of to actually hit from that distance is with Laurel's heroic feat,

With an Apothecary using the Bow of Bone and Concoction (grants an extra surge, if you have an elixir token) and Secret Formula (add an additional power die to the attack if you have an elixir otoken) to make a Blue Yellow Green Green attack, the most I've succeeded at was a range of 11. I'm not sure if there's a better bow for range than the Bow of Bone, though. 19 seems excessive to me,s ince everyone in our play group thought 11 was pushing it.

Guard's bow is in my opinion one of the better bow (if not the best)

19 range is impossible without some special ability to simply ignore range.

Lol. I'm not sure how this happened but I always read the card as if the attack just affects 2 cards in your line of site, ignoring range for some reason. It doesn't say that on the feat at all and now I'm wondering how I could have ever that that...... thanks for clearing that up. I feel like an idiot. Good thing they both missed or there would have been an interesting talk tomorrow. ....

The blue die has a range minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6. That is to say, the lowest range number on any face that is not X is 2. the yellow die does have one face that is a 2 range (I believe, no dice with me ATM) but none of the green or red die has a range value higher than 1 and only on some faces. So the highest range, based solely on dice (using my blue/yellow/green/green example) would be 6 on the blue, 2 on the yellow and 1 on each green for a total of 10. A bow's power to add range (Bow of bone, 1 surge for +2 range) adds to that maximum and any additional dice, like from the sunstone, would likewise add.

From my "research" a Boomerang, used with the sunstone and secret formula would go farthest

Base blue yellow yellow green surge for +2 range, green die from sunstone, green die from skill. 6+2+2+1+2+1+1 for a total of 15 if all sides show max range.

The next best, Relic Trueshot, only has a max 14.

Scorpion helm could help to add 1 more range.

Also the Bounty Hunter's Longshot would add another 3 since the attack would be way beyond the 5 space minimum requirement... so a Bounty Hunter using Longshot equipped with a Boomerang, Scorpion helm, Sunstone with the Secret Formula buff, could get 19 if the stars were to align. That'd be one hell of a throw.

To add, there's a Disciple skill that gives a yellow attack die to someone who's been affected by Prayer of Healing, so the max range with the above hypothetical would be 20 (If the BH received that buff instead of Secret Formula... 21 with it).

The day a character shoots 21 spaces and hits for what would then probably be 30+ damage... that will just murder me as an overlord.

("and he was only one day away from retirement")

Only Laurel of Bloodwood could do such an attack with her feat, and it's a real threat for the OL

Yes but it would not be so many dice that it would be 30 damage :) ... well I hope not.

When I did my attack from 11 squares, the damage was high but not because of the rolls, but because of the surges...So I don't think an ultra long range attack could kill a full-health lieutenant in one hit. It could come close, on the weaker ones, but it would be hard to be over 12 damage, because you can only use each surge ability only once.

On an added note, an apothecary could also play Inky substance on the target monster, to give yet another green die. So 19 is not "impossible" merely improbable...

It would require an alignement of item and skills that could only happen if the stars aligned... and we all know that means the return of Cthulhu, so we're all doomed anyways.

One of my player plays her with the Wildlander class, so she can shoot from any range through friendly figures... He had me a couple of times with this.
