"After you perform focus action or are assigned a focus token, you may perform a free boost or barrel roll action."

Let's say Jake performs a focus action. Part of the resolution of that action will assign him a focus token... Would he be able to both boost AND barrel roll after? Once for doing the action and once for being assigned a token?

My gut says no, but I'm not sure how to justifie it using the rules we have. We have the "once per opportunity" rule, but isn't it two separate opportunities?

1 Perform focus action

1.1 Assign focus token.

1.2 "After being assigned a focus token", abillity triggers, do a barrel roll.

2 "After you perform a focus action", abillity triggers, do a boost.

I guess the saving grace is that the rules for the focus action doens't say "assing" a focus token, just that you "place" one near the ship?

I see why you'd think that, but you're right... that's extreme rules lawyering.

Performing the focus action (which does indeed give you a focus token) is one part, or being assigned a focus token from someone like Garven or Kyle would be the other condition. Taking a focus action would not net you both a barrel roll and a boost.

Negative. When you perform a focus action you are not assigned a focus token. You merely place one next to the ship. The two extracts below make it clear that assigning a token and the action that provides said token are different.

When an ability instructs you to assign a token to your ship, this is different

perform a focus action during that round.
