Daqan Unit Ability Questions

By ManhattanMD, in BattleLore

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has the answer to some questions I have pertaining to the abilities of some Daqan units.

1) When Yeoman Archers counter, can they use the double shot ability?

2) If two Riverwatch Riders are adjacent to the same enemy unit and one of them declares an attack at that enemy unit, does the attacking Riverwatch Rider get to benefit from the other's flanking ability? The reference book states that "if the attacking unit has the flanking ability, the player does not gain the benefits of that flanking ability for the attack" (page 4).

As written, I do not think the Riverwatch Rider would benefit from flanking, although I would like to know if this was the intention of the game developers.

1. Nope. Yeoman Archers ability for being triggered require that they didn't move during their Move Step. If you counter, it's not your turn, hence you cannot trigger their ability.

2. Let's say we have two units of Riverwatch Riders, A and B. When A attacks, he gains the bonus for flanking given by B. When B attacks, he gains the bonus for flanking due to A. But B doesn't gain bonus for B (that's what the rules in the ref guide say)

Yeah, it makes sense that the Archers can't double shot on another player's turn. That's how I played it and glad to see that's the case.

As for the Riverwatch Riders, If it's true that they can use the flanking ability of another unit, that makes them pretty powerful units when supporting each other. Four movement and three combat dice is no joke, especially when you factor in that they cannot be countered.

Indeed, Riverwatch Riders are powerful (also reflected by a deplyment cost of 6); to have mutual Flanking being triggered, they require quite a good skill of the player that moves them, tho (and also probably you'll end up having your cavalry moving in one sector of the board, so that your opponent could take advantage of the situation by moving on other sections). And they are affected by building, forest hexes and so on so that you need to find the proper path to end up with them still adjacent
