Two rule question re: character abilities

By ERHershman, in Battlestar Galactica

1. Can Tom Zarek use the Friends in Low Places ability if he is in the Brig to reduce the difficulty of his own Skill Check to get out by 2? Or can it only be used if someone else is trying to get out?

2. Can Boomer only use Mysterious Intution on Crisis card she herself has drawn, or can she use it to intervene in the results of other people's crisis cards?

1. When "a player" not "another player" is how it is stated on the card. So YES he can use the ability on himself.

2. Any turn. Just remember it is a once per game ability and it must be on cards that have a Skill check.

a quick one here can a revealed cylon use his character abilities?

No. A revealed Cylon player's abilities are ignored.

I think they should have printed the Chracter cards double-sided. When you reveal, flip it over. That way you don't see any of your special abilities and they could have summarized what a Cylon can and can't do on their turn.

Or add the cylon rules to the loyalty cards, like Shadows over Camelot does.

Mine are double sided - the backs are all a metallic logo style, and thats exactly what we do, flip it over when they reveal.

We put the loyalty cards of the revealed cylons over the character abilites part of the character sheet.

Yeah, mine too. What I meant was printed with Cylon info on the reverse side. On the reverse they could have had the photo of the character (so you could still link it to the piece on the board) and the summarized instructions of what Cylons can do - draw any 2 Skill cards, only play 1 card into crisis checks, only actions are off of locations, etc.

For most players, this is superfluous info and really not needed (which is why it probably wasn't produced this way). But a lot of the questions I see are from people confused as to what Cylons can and can't do - especially in regards to their previous abilities as a human. So I think this would have solved a lot of simple questions and would have been a nice little bonus.

Ah, gotcha....yes it might be handy....actually the more I think about it, the more I sense a call for an adhesive label or two for my set.

Would be nice if in a future expansion they released the characters again with the other side being the Cylon Turn summary. Would be really handy for new players.
