[Off-Topic] Star Wars: A New Dawn, is anyone else reading this?

By EvilEd209, in X-Wing

Well if you remember others have been both Captain America and Thor before. Bucky Barnes was Captain America after Steve Rogers was shot. Also Beta Ray Bill ( Hope that was right sorry ) and I heard also Jane Foster was Thor for a time. They like to mix things up once in a while. I think it gives a good twist to it. But back to Starwars it will be ok. They have Leeland Chee , Dave Falloni , Pablo Hidalgo who are really big Starwars Fans and have more knowlege of Starwars than most people have ever thought of. Also all of them are big fans of the EU. So I see a bunch of EU being put into the new cannon. Also the old Eu is not gone it has just been set as Legends. Which is ok because our stories will always be there. Am I sad to see the old Eu go? Yeah, but I am also excited to see what new things that they can come up with for Starwars. Just look who they have to help write Starwars Episode 7 Lawrence Kasdan. He was the the one who made Empire Strikes back the best Starwars movie. So I am not worried. I just hope there are no Lense Flares :D

The good thing is one of the writers for Rebels and the novels coming out recently said that the old stuff is canon until contradicted and even then those stories contradictaded are still kind canon just not the details of the events =]

Thanks for the quote Black Knight Leader :

..

Thats why I think it will be ok. And I am hopeful for the new canon.

I really didnt say anthing about Captain America unless your count the Punisher. As for the Thor thing, the artical said it was disney dictating orders to disney to have the changes made that happend...

Ou of all of this as far as characters I like, the Punisher and Eddie Brock have been the most defiled... =[

Which article are you referring to?

I'm listening my way through the last Dresden Files book (wonderful series, btw) and A New Dawn is on deck.

And without intending to feed the trolls....why do we think that Disney will kill X series/product/idea. Not sure if you noticed or not, but they are a wildly successful company that is really good at most things they get into. Hell, I worked for Disney for a summer on the college program and some of their lectures illustrated the crazy lengths Disney goes to so that details are correct, products are solid, etc.

TBH, I think most of it is not that they will destroy Star Wars; it's that they will destroy the Star Wars that we know and replace it with something different and vastly inferior. The worst thing is that the next generation of fans will grow up only knowing (as YWingAce put it) Disney's "fake canon."

I think far too many people have judged it vastly inferior before we know anything at all about it. And an equally large portion of the fans will never accept ANYTHING.

The vast majority of the EU isn't worth defending, but people will go to the mat for stupidity like the Vong anyway. The prequels are almost universally reviled by "classic" Star Wars fans, but apart from the inelegant implementation of the movies, the world they create is actually pretty good.

Which is fine, everyone will like what they like, I suppose. But the rush to declarations of suck is a good indicator of those who'll never accept anything that comes out of this.

Which just goes to show the truthfulness of a statement I heard a while ago: Deep down inside, all Star Wars fans hate Star Wars.

THEN YE MUST REPENT IN DUST AND ASHES SO YOU DO NOT FEEL THE BURNING, UNENDING WRATH OF THE TORTURER OF SOULS, JAR JAR HIMSELF!!!!!!!!!!!

No. :P

'Bout all I dislike is Post Vong, TFU II, and the technological stupidity of KOTOR as a series. Most everything else is A-Okay in my book.

I think this is close enough to reality to look the same, but I don't actually think it's accurate.

I think that, for some reason, Star Wars inspires a very narrow-minded passion in a lot of people. Maybe it's because the entire thing is really, really fuzzy and people can fill in the holes on their own. But it gets far worse when you consider the wildly different styles and interpretations the various EU sources have put in - there's a LOT of Star Wars, and it covers such a massive range that most of it isn't going to fit those narrow interpretations.

So I think that a lot of people love their personal interpretation of "real" Star Wars, and hate anything that doesn't match it. And that slice of what they do love is so narrow that it's indistinguishable from really hating it all.

Every time I see this thread title it reminds of a great song by one of the greatest bands of all time.

I don't coddle him and usually let him see stuff above his age bracket, but I like to do my due diligence as his Dad not to freak him out with something unexpected. He's a good kid and I don't want to do him wrong. I wouldn't let him see The Ring, for example. That one freaked me out!

As for Disney, what do people expect to happen? You think Disney wants to kill the cash cow? You think they want to have another Episodes I-III? They will look at The Hobbit / LotR movies to see how much money you can make. They won't mess with them. Personally, I'm excited with what Disney has planned. How many movies in the next 5 years? That's a good thing. A new animated TV show set in a better time frame. They are scrapping the boring Knights of the Republic pc game series and have already made a freemium web Tie Fighter vs X-wing game. Oh, and this book is canon. Just think about that. All the books to come out will most likely be "official". No more BS about the book universe and the movies.

Not sure where you got your info on the scrapping of a KOTOR PC game series, mostly because it was a console series that happened to have a PC version as well. The MMO that grew out of it is still going strong, and getting ready to announce a new big expansion in the next few weeks. An expansion that will more than likely directly continue the background story from the first KOTOR game (i.e. the one that was pretty universally loved).

I didn't used to than he made the prequels and I fell to the dark side, and my hate is strong.

It was an article I read right after Disney came out. They talked about freezing all the "in progress" games and most likely scrapping them. At least that's what I recall. I've got nothing against the MMORPG game and don't really know squat about platform games. I've been a PC gamer and I haven't seen anything come out that I enjoyed since the last X-wing vs. Tie Fighter game. I'm hoping for SOMETHING better. I feel like Disney will want to crank out a fair amount of product, which is good in my opinion.

Overall, this will be the book that I join Audible for my free month and download. It will be good bed time story material. We really enjoyed Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow on audio book.

As for the EU, I've only read a little bit beyond the main movies. I read the Thrawn series and liked it well enough. I'm not too keen on trying to read too much more, to be honest. I'm happy to see a ton of movies come out in the next few years. Will some of them maybe be not the best? Sure, but I'm just happy to see more movies come out.

As for Episodes I-III, I'm just hoping that Hollywood's desire to constantly remake old shows/movies into modern adaptations will extend to those movies. I don't think they had terrible plots, but having them redone a bit wouldn't be a bad thing. I had heard that someone redid all those movies and cut out all the scenes with Anakin and Amadala. They said it was a really good movie then! I wish I could find a version of that edit and watch it.

I have about 3 book shelves of starwars books more than 3 different versions of the movies VHS, DVD and Special editions , A garage full of Starwars stuff and I play X-wing , I also listen to 4 or 5 different Starwars podcasts. That tends to disprove that all starwars fans hate Star Wars. Now I don't know if you are being sarcastic or what but to group every one in this specific group is wrong. Not trying to troll any one just giving my 2 cents worth. :D

It was in a random google search, it must be true!

What I am saying is that you will find pretty well no other genre of fans that are so firmly encamped in one ideology or another that they will actively hate and attack those who enjoy other aspects of the same genre. Star Wars fans also tend to hate at least one part of whatever the people in charge of Lucasfilm are doing.

He read it on the interwebs, so it must be true. Then....he posted it on the interwebs and *I* read it there. It's doubly true now!

2 separate sources. You can publish it in print now.

No joke, a person in my college-level English class thought this was acceptable to get an appropriate number of sources for a paper he was writing.

I had to do a little interwebbing action, and while it does say a woman is becoming Thor, it didn't mention anything about Disney forcing their hand at Marvel to make it so. It just stated that "Male Thor" wasn't worthy anymore, probably from the excess ale and women, and his half sister was worthy and took up the mantel. Lookie I even provided a cool little link! :P

But back on topic of buying the book I am getting it today. Hopefully it doesn't interfere with my X-Wing and creating a cool campaign in Age of Rebellion.
