[Off-Topic] Star Wars: A New Dawn, is anyone else reading this?

By EvilEd209, in X-Wing

Hey guys, so I decided that I am going to try to keep up with these new official canon stories and it all starts with this one book. I picked it up this morning and plan to star reading it at lunch.

I was just curious if anyone else had read/started reading it and what their thoughts were so far.

I finished it over the weekend. Really enjoyed it and hope the writing on Rebels is similar in tone and quality.

I haven't read it but I think I will add it to my list. The new book I really want to read is the Tarkin book which comes out in November.

Looking to pick this up soon. I read the EU a long time ago and it would be nice to get on board right at the start.

Really looking forward to Tarkin as well. Hoping that James Lucerno does as good a job on it as he did on Darth Plagueis.

Almost done reading it. I really like it. JJ Miller is one of my favorite Star Wars authors. His KotOR series and Kenobi were fantastic.

I just wish Chopper was in the book. Chopper is the ****.

Awesome book though.

Sold! Buying it now.

John Jackson Miller is a great writer. I don't know if I'll be picking up the new "canon" books, but I'm sure this one is good.

I'm intrigued, haven't decided if I should take the plunge yet.

I'm actually reading Plageius right now. Its the one thing I always wanted to know more about (Palpatine's origin).

So how much does it screw up of the real canon (legends), and how of it did it save to the fake canon (Disney)?

P.S. I guess I should ask if it was a good book to. I guess. Maybe. Nah whatever.

From what I have read thus far is doesn't mess much of anything up, as it is written in an era where not a lot of the EU went, between Episodes 3 and 4.

Any references or nods to confirm the existence of things, like locations, characters, ships etc.?

Hmmm... interesting. I am not far enough into it to say for sure, but I'll start taking note to the ships mentioned.

He mentions cortosis which I felt was pretty big thing to bring over.

The story is pretty localized so it would've been odd to just reference things that didn't fit into the story, so there's not much of that.

Cortosis? That's really surprising. It seems to be one of the lazier story elements.

I just bought the Audio CD.

Bee picking it up tonight.

Does it completely invalidate Force Unleashed?

My son is excited about the tv show. He's 9. Would that be a book we could read together? Or is it too much for him?

Meh we all know Mandalorian Iron beats Cortosis, but it will do....... I also looked at the wookiee, Corellia was mentioned so that exists now in fake canon.

Well, Corellian ships were mentioned in a new hope, so that shouldn't be surprising.

Well they screwed up Corellian Corvettes so don't be surprised........ I mean c'mon, Alderaanian Cruiser?? Lame.

Just finished it - I also really enjoyed it. Hope the tone of the TV show is similar/same.
