Art from the books?

By knasserII, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi, this question might be a little optimistic but...

One thing that is staggeringly apparent from the EotE books is that the artwork is of a stunning quality. Honestly, I could stare at the dance scene from Jewel of Yavin for ages. Ships and cantinas and sprawling city scapes like in SoF, even the Enforcer in DC is a beautiful portrait - she looks like a mad, fascist version of Winona Ryder...

Sadly, it's rather awkward to hold up the artwork scene for the players carefully trying to cover up bits of text with sheets of paper like the JoY pictures.

Have FFG published these online anywhere? I found a couple from their press announcements but they're always very small. I would love to have some of these cycling through on the television in the background whilst we play, to set atmosphere.

I've never been one to hold up the pictures to my players if I can help it. I do my best just to describe the scene or the character to them.

I certainly do that. But this art is too beautiful and too atmospheric. There's a picture in one of the books of a human playing cards with some furry doormouse like creatures. I just know at least two of my players would be going 'ooooo' when that cycled up on the screen. And whilst I can describe the majestic golden spires of a city, having that beautiful picture from SoF on the screen in the background during balcony tea with the Moff's adjutant would just be atmospheric.

I used to be a purist. Now I'm an everythingist.

Try looking for the artist's webpages or DeviantArt pages; a lot of artists will post examples of thier work that has been published as part of their portfolio.

Phil beat me to it.

I wish there was an index somewhere of the titles of the art pieces in each book, a brief descriptor (especially if it is a ship), and the artist.

Zoe Robinson is the art director, I believe. She might be able to respond to requests for information about the artists. She's mentioned names often on Order 66.

Those setting scenes from BtR, where the players are walking under the ruins of the ship, are what I'd like to see. Couldn't find them at DeviantArt. I'd definitely pay for PoD or PDF for those...

Take a look for Mark Molnar; he's done a lot of the really iconic images for FFG's games. Like, most of the backdrops for the covers and many of the chapter spreads.

(My god, I didn't even realize there was a MonCal in the foreground on this one...)

Yeah! But, it'd be nice if it was bigger... :)

Edit: how did you find that? The directory listing is restricted.

I googled "Sa Nalaor". I didn't have any luck finding it on Dev Art.

And people should take off the "Star Wars" filter on that site and peruse his non-Star Wars stuff. A lot of his non-Star Wars stuff would fit just fine in the SW universe.

Looking over his Hellblade landscapes and think "Sith World" myself...

I think FFG, Disney, or Star wars would own the rights to the pictures in the books.

But yes, some of the artwork I would love to have as prints. It gives me chills and smugness to see such artwork in an RPG i love. I still remember back in the day when I would be happy just to see a black and white picture even with areas the inker forgot to fill it

Wow. Thank you for that! Those are several of the images I particularly wanted. Beautiful!
