Boba Fett repaint in preparation for S&V

By PLR, in X-Wing

Finally got around to finishing my Boba Fett Repaint while I wait for Scum & Villainy to be released...

Sorry for the crappy photos, I only have my Phone camera at the moment...

First up a Triple shot: Stock Firespray, Boba Fett Repaint, Krassis Repaint

Wow... Is all I can say. The colors really bring out the life to the model.

Stop dissuading me from painting my minis!

Umm...you in the US? You take commissions?

Skargoth, I'm hoping to inspire painting, not dissuade...

Rakky, I'm in Canada, and not taking commissions at this time. Too much on my plate to make people wait excessive times for their models.

Nice work anyway!

Fantastic job - the brighter colours really work on this one. How have you added the orange-brown weathering? Pigment powders, washes/glazes or something else?

nice

That's pretty cool, the heavy outlines makes me think it's the Bordelands' version of Slave One

The weathering is a mix of washes, heavy brush strokes and powders. Basically lots of layers. Helps give it the sense it's been used and repainted over the years.

Awesome work, love it!

A 10! I give it a 10!

Very nice. I wish I had more patience.

That's about the best Slave 1 I have seen. Well played that man!

Ditto Spider that is the best looking Boba Fett that I have seen.

Hi, I like your great saturated colours. It is rarely seen in such a great harmony.

Keep on happy painting

Dark Curse

Thanks everyone!

Love this. I really need to see more start to finish painting videos. I have no one to teach me how to be so amazing. I have painted some ships and they look good, but they don't look great.

I don't have a video, but I do have rough photos of the process...

Agreed.

Magnificent!

For those that asked, here are the in progress shots of Slave-1.
Again sorry for the not great photos, just taken with my phone's camera and harsh lighting. The lighting doesn't show the model very accurately, but it's enough to give you the overall idea.

First up, is stripping the model with Simple Green and giving it a light coat of fine grey primer.

BF1.jpg

Then is a simple base coat of all the main colours. I don't get too crazy with this stage as everything will be cleaned up in the highlights stage.

BF2.jpg

Next is a total model brown ink wash.

BF3.jpg

Now I get into the highlights. I start with a lighter colour than the base and work into the base colour used. Mixed with the ink wash this generally gives a good range of tone. My personal style is very much a "painted" style. I like a little expressiveness to the paint instead of 100% real life look.

BF4.jpg

After the highlights it's the first level of weathering, the paint chipping.
This is done with Mithril silver then edged with black. The hard part is to keep it looking random and realistic.

BF5.jpg

Lastly is the use of weathering powders add a little extra depth. After the powders is final touchups and details. The cockpit and engines are gloss hard coated.

Everything is done with a brush, no airbrushing.
Oh and a custom magnetized base with aluminum rod finishes up the complete game piece.

You've done an immense job...

Thanks for the 'in progress' shots, it helps to see the process sometimes.

What colors did you use, I've been thinking of touching up my Boba Fett, to give it some pop...
