Might we ever see a kamikaze ability from scum and villainy?

By nikk whyte, in X-Wing

Something like a self destruct, or a deadlier version of ramming speed from the decimator.

Make it take up an illicit upgrade, and have the card read "if this ship has received any critical hits, and is touching another ship, it may destroy itself to inflict 2 damage on every ship it is touching" or let it work for an area of effect, at one range and one damage that must be rolled.

Thoughts? It's pretty situational, but it's not very different from a doomshuttle

One of the upgrades in the IG-2000 pack looks conspicuously like a Deadman's Switch, which may allow ships to deal damage when destroyed.

I think post 9/11 game makers have been very cagey about 'suicide bomb' units.

The imperial guard lost them from their penal battalions as all of a sudden it was a bit insensitive to have penal battalion human bombs and rules for them.

I cant really see suicide crash pilots going down too well... no pun intended (honestly)

Not sure about that, but there appears to be an illicit upgrade that is a dead man switch. Looks like it does what a dead man switch does the fluff, based on the partial text: When this ship is destroyed, all ships at Range 1 suffers one damage.

EDIT: as previously stated, the doom shuttle pretty much already IS this. You just don't do the flying bit.

I think it is a great strategy. A few years back I wrote a short story where the rebels took an astromech, plunked him in a GR75 full of armed torpedoes, and plotted a light speed jump through an ISD that had been lured into position. Having said that, I dont think it fits with the scum very well. I can see an emporer's personal bodyguard killing himself to protect the emporer, but the scum a mercenaries. Guns for hire are not that loyal, or fanatical. You cannot buy the kind of loyalty that you would need for a suicide pilot. to quote the man "what good is reward if you aint around to use it?"

Black sun though.. they are like yazuka/mafia organised crime are they not... i can totally see that sort of organisation having 'loyatly to the death'... as your fate is worse than death if you disobey :)

IG Penal Guard were gone way before 2000. But they're back now.

I think an "I'm dead so you get hurt" deadman's switch would work.

Suicide attack not so much. The Scum faction is full of pirates and people who are out only for themselves. A suicide pilot is someone who believes in something greater than himself. That doesn't fit with the people of the faction.

There's more than one reason to blow yourself up.

"If I go down I'm taking you with me" comes to mind.

Since this isn't fan-fic and I don't have to care about anyone ideological convictions, wedge could blow himself up for all I care.

The faction isn't called "Mandos and mercs." It's called "scum and villainy."

And there aren't many more scummy or villainous things than becoming wildly erratic and dangerous upon realizing you will soon die.

I will back this up with the canon fluff that is Leia in Boushh's armor, threatening to blow up everybody in the throne room if her demands weren't met. Jabba replied with "this bounty hunter is my kind of scum"
