How many do you fly?

By TomasB, in X-Wing

Rebels - 4 ships before Z-95, 5 ships after

It changes so much for me. There are plenty of times I fly the maximum number of ships the generics allow.

Here is an interesting pole that I started a while ago:

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1168965/how-many-ships-do-you-need-balanced-fleet

Since I keep all the ships for our group this is also the ships that I try to have.

I look at two things. Of course the majority vote and also any pole result over 20%.

As you can tell from my post I'm not over found of spam swarm lists with a couple of exceptions.

Well, my current love is for Interceptors, and I normally run 2, and on occasion 3. If I run Phantoms, I'll run one of the named pilots, and will occasionally pair it up with a second unnamed pilot. I have run with both named pilots, but the list tends to be really squishy.

This past weekend, I ran Soontir, Whisper and Echo, and while it's a fun list to fly, it's all too easy to have any one of them one-shotted into oblivion. They're not exactly cheap once you have them loaded up either. My first game had us going to time with no-one losing a ship, and my second had us going to time, with me losing by 3 points.

Rebels - well, I will run any of the following - 2 B-wings or A-wings (that's all I have until Aces), 2 or maybe 3 X-wings (I have 4, but it's nice to run the named pilots). I only have the 2 Z-95's at the moment, so I'd like a few more to run a swarm of some sort.

9 times out of 10 I fly 4 (rebel) ships. Unless I call upon the great Chewbacca, then I fly 3. This is also because I only have one Z95. BBBZZ or XXXZZZ seems like heaps of fun to me!

I fly 2-ship builds almost exclusively.

I fly 2-ship builds almost exclusively.

But you fly in the X-Wing league for the criminally insane. ;)

I rarely fly swarm, mini-swarm occasionally, so at most 4 Zs or TIEs. Otherwise, doubles of a ship are common, 3s much rarer. Generally, I build around a central ship or concept, then structure support around what the centerpiece may struggle against. Example, a mini-swarm with a Phantom, or shuttles with Soontir.

I usually use 3 ships: some combination of large, support, and flankers.

As many as possible, more options that way.

For what it is worth, we all stopped reading with the poll dancer, I fly four as often as possible to get the most attack dice. How does it work for me? 50/50

Rebels:

6 A-Wings (all chardaan refitted from my 2 gencon rebel aces boxes), some with a higher ps than others

or

2 E-Wings decked out

Empire:

2-3 ships almost always.

1 Lambda, 1 Phantom, 1 Squint

or

3 Squints

or

2 Defenders, 1 Tie Fighter

or

1 Decimator, 1 Phantom

or

1 Phantom, 1 Defender

or

2 Defenders

On average I fly 3-4 ships in a game. However I do mix it up a bit and have taken only 2 or up to 6 at the most.

On a slight tangent, I tend not to overequip and try to take the options that will be most useful for my build/game plan.

2 to 3 Interceptors, usually Fel and Turr

5 Bombers, with bombs. This is a fun one. You've got hull points for days and nobody wants to put themselves behind you for fear of the bombs. Their movement dials are surprisingly good.

I'll only bother with regular TIEs if I fly 4 or more.

Defenders, Phantoms just 1.

2 A-Wings, 2 Ys, 2 Bs, 3 Zs, 1 Hawk

Big ships only 1, even though I have at least 2 of everything.

Currently I'm running a 3 Y-wing Squad and a 2 Firespray + Shuttle in a local two list league.

2 E-Wings decked out can provide a lot of punishment, and can survive, but I would be worried about going against a TIE Swarm or some such configuration with only two ships. What do you deck your E-Wings out with?
