Pantoran stats PEACH

By Neredan Kaz, in Game Masters

Hi guys.

I want to start a campaign really soon and one of the players is interested in playing a Pantoran. This is my interpretation of what I did see in the TCW cartoons and what was posted in a d20 radio thread.

PANTORAN

PANTORAN

SPECIES ABILITIES

BRAWN 2

AGILITY 2

INTELLECT 2

CUNNING 2

WILLPOWER 2

PRESENCE 2

• Wound Threshold: 10 + Brawn

• Strain Threshold: 10 + Willpower

• Starting Experience: 110 XP

• Special Abilities: Pantorans begin the game with either one rank in Discipline or Resilience. They still may not train Discipline or Resilience above rank 2 during character creation.

• Cold Adaptation: When making skill checks, Pantorans may remove a Setback_zpsa27a8250.png imposed due to cold environmental conditions.

PANTORAN (Final Version)

SPECIES ABILITIES

BRAWN 1

AGILITY 2

INTELLECT 2

CUNNING 2

WILLPOWER 3

PRESENCE 2

• Wound Threshold: 10 + Brawn

• Strain Threshold: 11 + Willpower

• Starting Experience: 100 XP

• Special Abilities: Pantorans begin the game with either one rank in Discipline or Resilience. They still may not train Discipline or Resilience above rank 2 during character creation.

• Cold Adaptation: When making skill checks, Pantorans may remove a Setback_zpsa27a8250.png imposed due to cold environmental conditions.

The special abilities are pretty straight forward and I agree with the guys in d20 radio. I kept their characteristics Wound and Strains as humans because I haven't noticed something that stands out in them, but I am not sure if this is balancing. If I am missing something please let me know.

Edit: Added my last revision, which I believe more balanced.

Your profile seems to be in line with what FFG has done with other species.

However, I find that non-humans in this game kind of get short shrift. Those two non-career skills are pretty handy and very flexible. I'm not sure a MonCal's water breathing or a Pantoran's cold resistance is worth as much, it's really just situational candy.

I'm not so sure about it being situational candy. I very frequently throw setback dice due to cold or heat at my players, making them spend 2 Encumbrance carrying a thermal cloak. Let me tell you, they feel those two Encumbrance pretty bad whenever they have to go someplace where they can't easily swap out their equipment. I have two Twi'leks in the group, and they have often found themselves looking rather smug when they remove that one setback die for heat.

Exactly--tell that to your party when they travel to Dac or to Hoth!

Thank you for your comments guys.

Do you think they are balanced?

Personally, I try to tie-in to the main campaign some side treks (without compromising the main story) where the characters with special abilities like climate adaptations or amphibious could be useful.

Thank you very much! :) I have a soft spot for them. Now I have to work on the Kiffar, Miraluka and Epicanthix and my group will be done hehehehe.

PS Feel free to use them and let me know how did it work for you.

The most recent episode of the Order 66 Podcast talked about homebreweing the Psychometry ability. It was discussed in the "Messages from the Edge" Portion of the show, which happens after the main topic. I can't give an exact time stamp, but probably near-ish to the 1 hour, 45 min mark.

Thank you very much Kaosoe! I'll check it out. :D

I might give them a three in cunning, presence, or intellect, and maybe a one in brawn.

If you want to make things really interesting, give them threes in cunning, willpower, and presence, but a one in brawn, and only 40-50 XP

Updated my version, see first post.

Looks good!
