Phantom- Falcon hate

By Two_Hands, in X-Wing

Everyone knows Whisper is awesome, but she suffers against Falcon builds. So I was playing around with some ideas for a way to take down the Falcon but still be able to win against other builds... Here's the first draft:

Whisper, VI, FCS, ACD

Howlrunner, SD

Scimitar, clusters

Scimitar, clusters

Against most builds Howlrunner + the bombers can act as almost a miniswarm, while Whisper just does what she does; vs Han the bombers and Howlie concentrate on the Falcon while Whisper jumps around taking out the escorts then cleans up at the end. I don't usually run much ordnance but I think this could work.

Things that I could change: potentially I could drop the FCS and/or the SD, in order to add Munitions Failsafes and/or Squad Leader on Howlie to make the clusters more effective. Any thoughts on builds that might be an issue for this build/ things I might need to adjust?

I dont think Munitions Failsafe is good Cluster and i would try to put recon on the whisper

Howly doesnt buff the clusters so what is the point in bringing her? I'd rather have another bomber, falcons don't like to eat 18 or 22 dice in an single round even if it's unmodified and spread over 6-7 attacks.

Maybe you can get Jonus in there, that would make for some mean cluster missiles.

Howlie's there because once the clusters are gone, the bombers are slightly tougher but less manoeuvrable tie fighters- with her rerolls they aren't totally hopeless.

A lot of people under estimate bomber. a guy runing 4 of them made it into the top 4 at our regionals

I've taken out Falcons with

Echo

Veteran instincts

Advanced cloak

Howlrunner

Swarm tactics

Hull upgrade

3x academy pilots.

In some games I've lost the phantom early, usually after his squad mates are taken out, and other games I've used the Phantom to block in order to get her alive.

Worked well for me those few games, but some were close.

I found if I can get my ties in the way and block the Falcon, it was a breeze to take down.

If I was unable to block it, it would have been a lot harder

But they have a target lock, so as Joostuh says it's better to take something other.

Those lists look fun, I'll have a friend try them against:

Chewbacca (42)

Wingman (2)

C-3PO (3)

Han Solo (2)

Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)

Millennium Falcon (1)

Lando Calrissian (44)

Push the Limit (3)

Phantoms do OK against YT-1300s without Gunner or PS 9+ in general anyway. Test it against Han with VI and Gunner or something.

Never underestimate the power of the sensor jammer against the falcon. If they have to take focus to reliably shoot at your phantom it leaves them more vulnerable for each shot. Throw in a rebel captive and they can't shoot with focus or evade or they get really predictable. If you take evade on your phantom each turn they have a really hard time getting through to your hull. It is a bit expensive, but it is critical evasiveness that works against any build you come across. It's like running a fat Han or chewy build. A lot of points in one basket, but what a basket.
