Scum theorycrafting: Z-95 edition

By Redblock, in X-Wing

So scum is on the way, and we need to be ready (not to scream "sky is falling"). Lets talk about scum version of Z-95. Info is very limited, we know pilot skills, ilicit upgrade slot being added, and all info on 7 pilot skill one.

My guess about Ps1 headhunter is 12 points, with ilicit slot compensating for pilot skill lost compared to rebel version. 3 and 5 versions is mistery, but 7 version is 17 points, ept, missile and ilicit slots and ability "when attacking if there are no friendly ships whitin range 1-2 roll additional die." So a flanker, pure and simple. For 17 points you get X wing with 1 less hull and 7 pilot skill, quite a bargain. Add predator, or something among those lines, and opponent has to split and send something his way. Or add engine upgrade for max speed (upgrade options is reason I made this post, to get your opinion). Ship has limited role, but shines at it.

I have a feeling the PS 3 pilot (who appears to be Black Sun something...) will be around 13 points like a Tala to a Bandit. While I like the idea of a flanker Z, I'm not really sure that Expose is the best option for a ship with such a simple dial. Engine Upgrade is interesting though. Perhaps Expert Handling...

Lone wolf on the PS 7 version.

Where did I mention expose? No one sane mentions expose (exept if you say "decimator in same sentence)

I don't know about the generics, but the PS 7 one is going to be amazing. Assuming you can keep it off by itself you're getting a PS 7 x-wing for 20 points (adding a hull upgrade to match the HP) instead of 26-27 points. Or you can accept the loss of a hull HP and get it for 17 points! The ability to put a relevant 3-dice threat on the table for so few points is incredibly powerful and frees up a lot of points to spend on something else.

Yeah, it looks to be the Scum equivalent of Backstabber. Easily fulfilled requirements to punch way above its weight class.

Even better, actually, thanks to the EPT.

The High PS ones get the Illicit slots. Scum Zs are just worse than Rebel Zs. Or better, if you prefer PS1 and 3 to 2 and 4.

Backstabber has long been a points efficiency master. Very arguably the best Tie.

No arguement there... BS is the best.

I don't think I'd go with the extra Hull over one of the illicit upgrades (assuming at least one of them will be awesome enough). It's still only a z-95... and then there's missiles! Don't see a restriction on type of attack.

I've been building on the assumption of 12pts.

Enter Sandman

Xizor + PTL + Virago + Sensor Jammer (39pts)

Serissu (20)

Scummy Zx3 (36pts)

Leaves 5pts for some illicit upgrades...more if sensor jammer starts feeling like too much. Serissu gets either wingman or bodyguard depending on how good the Virago's dial is. If it's decent then you're going with Bodyguard and you get a 4AG base Xizor who changes one hit to a focus, gets one reroll on agility dice, evade and focus token, and if one hit goes through it just goes to a Z. DEFENSIVE SHIP! Hell, throw on a stealth device for those last 3pts and you're looking at AG 5 for awhile. I'll buy scum to run this list alone!

As someone mentioned PS 7 ability can be used with secondary weapons. First thing that comes to mind is cluster missiles, 2x4 attack is solid, add predator and profit, and still only 24 points

Well for generics (non unique) ScumZies will be played just like the way Rebel Headhunters are. A cheap filler ship with a missile attachment. Having 2 in the MW pack you would probably see more ScumZie Swarms then Rebel Z-95 swarms. The elicit upgrade could be a game changer but remember with swarms you want to keep your units as cheap as possible so you can field as many ships as you are allowed. So not much change with PS 1 and 3 Z-95s ofer Rebel Z-95s.

Now the Unique ScumZie pilots will be different from Rebel Headhunters. The named N'dru Suhlak has a lone wolf ability in him so you could see it won't be the same as Howlrunner or Airen Cracken in which they help the swarm. Instead that pilot will probably act as a cheap flanker with cluster missiles or something like that.

Well done!!!
