PS10-11 Phantom?

By Joostuh, in X-Wing

Hey all, this just came to mind:

Could combining a named Phantom with decoy and a PS8-9 pilot with Veteran Instincts be a good way to make sure no one is shooting at you uncloaked? Or are you just wasting an expensive pilot's true potential to get a minor PS Boost for your Phantom?

Could work. It really needs to be PS11 because of Han + VI. The problem is a lack of PS8+ Imperial pilots with an EPT that you would want to use to put decoy on them. Your choices for PS9 are: Soontir Fel or Darth Vader. You really don't want to be taking either of those with VI. Possibly Vader someday if the TIE Advanced gets some significant love.

Unfortunately your movement is still at PS6/7.

Also I used Roark to great effect with chewie against phantoms so there's no way you will beat a 12 using imperials as of now but who knows in the future.

You know, Rexler Brath might fit this bill, although for PS10. He would rather shoot second when shields are down, and he can take EPTs. VI Han is still a problem I suppose.

Hmmmm.....

You're just a crazy dreamer....

As noted, a Phantom with Decoy moves at PS6-7, so they lose the benefit of knowing where to decloak to avoid being shot.

Not worth it, IMO. If you face a list with PS10+, your objective as the Phantom player is easy: that ship must die first, so the better focus is developing the REST of your list to being able to tackle high PS threats to your Phantom. You are thinking one-dimensionally about PS as if it's insurmountable when low PS builds have been beating them for years.

It's interesting to see a thread trying to make the Phantom more of a threat. Phantoms live and die by their Pilot Skill level. This is why we see way more Whispers over Echos, even though Echo is much harder to predict where she's going. With so many points tied up in the Phantom as it is dedicating more points makes it only hurt that much more when they get killed.

I think the biggest issue is you can't put VI and decoy on the same ship.

Well you can, but its a rebel ship.

If you can get a lot of synergy going, it could be worth it.

Example:

Echo with decoy

Major Rhymer with veteran instinct + proton torpedoes

Echo borrows the PS rating, shoots first

Major Rhymer gets a good target lock, shoots last at the same target and proton can land a crit.

Just an idea.

Vader in a phantom would be game over for the enemy. Arc evasion unrivaled. Survive long enough to kill Roark, which for Vader in a phantom would obliterate Roark in about 2 shots, and you are probably unstoppable. They would have to get crazy lucky to get you in arc much less hit you. Barrel roll/evade, focus/evade, barrel roll/ focus, and the elusive cloak and other actions. Would be great.

go go intelligence agent!

Forum search "Echoes of Vader's past" for reports and musing on Vader echo PS swapping.

The short of it: it's easier and cheaper to whisper but does make a fun and flexible list. Maybe if the advanced gets its boost but it's a sad day when Vader can't even punch his weight anymore.
