Beta Updates Starting Soon

By Scalding, in General Discussion

According to http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=5026 , the Beta Updates start next week (Tuesday, September 9th).

But in the same article, they say "we will be waiting for the copies of the Beta to be available in stores before we start posting updates."

However, the books are not yet available in stores! In fact, according to http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_upcoming.asp , they aren't expected until Friday, September 12th!

So which is it? Will FFG push back the Beta Updates so that the majority of players have the opportunity to get the book and give feedback, or not?

My guess is that they've already identified so much that needs revision that they're not going to waste any time.

Too obvious?

Well, of the volume of activity on these forums is any indication, they've probably got enough to get the ball rolling, as several possible candidates for updates or alterations have been made.

I'm hoping it's as soon as possible.

That's all fine for those of us already reading and arguing about the rules, but I'd find it rather rude if I were still waiting for the book to reach my FLGS when the updates started coming out.

I'd expect FFG to push it back a couple weeks, so that players would have at least a full week before starting updates.

Also, I generally dislike when people say they were going to do one thing and then do another.

I think everyone would prefer updates that clarify text that's been questioned as well as fixing any other typos are miscellaneous smaller errors as soon as possible. That way it gets them out of the way, and when everyone grabs their books, they aren't just focusing on errors that have already been noted and fixed - drawing attentions away from stuff that really does need work.

Now big things - like the whole debate on lightsaber modifications and everything, they can, should, and probably will, leave those for until the release is widespread, so more debate can be generated.

Well, it's not like their only doing a single update.

As Lathrop noted, it'll likely be a collection of minor editing fixes and clarifications, so that once people start getting the book and start getting involved, FFG's not deluged with a bunch of stuff they already know is wrong. Thus, it lest folks focus on the parts of the new rules that FFG would like to see tested.

Please, start without me. I see no benifit to anyone in waiting.
