My question is on how to allocate damage to the YT-1300 with this set-up.

If "Draw Their Fire" takes one critical damage from a friendly ship, and Chewy ignores the text on critical hits how does the damage get allocated? Does it come off the shields? Is it applied to the hill points with no text applied?

Also how are critical hits applied to ships with shields? Does it just remove a shield point, or does it go against the hull points?

DTF moves the uncanceled die result to a different ship. After that, that uncanceled die deals damage. Which follows the normal rules for dealing damage. So you check if that ship has a shield. If it does, you never draw a damage card. If it does not, you do draw a face-up damage card.That triggers the pilot ability, turning the card face down.

Rexler for example can make chewie take crits because his ability triggers after, so you take the crit flip it face down then rexler spends his focus flipping it back up.

It's a common mistake that most new players make with Chewie. I guess it's most player's initial interpretation when reading the card for the first time.

That's a good point. I usually ask my son to read the card text so we both know exactly what it is saying. I paraphrased the text on Chewy only for being concise in the forum post.

Direct hit never comes into play because you won't draw a card if the damaged ship still has shields, you would simply remove the appropriate number of shield tokens. Also, Direct hit becomes 2 damage to hull (which will take damage only after the shields are gone, except see below).

You may be thinking of the Proton Bomb, which doesn't deal damage but deals a face up card, bypassing the removing shields rule altogether, and making a ship able to have a direct hit while still having shields.

I reread the rules including the combat example and for whatever reason that I didn't pick up the first few times I get the critical damage rule with regards to shields finally.
