So how do you use sigma squadron? My thoughts are they are an expensive interceptor without ptl. Your prolly gonna want to stay at range 3 of most ships so basically filling a sniper roll in the squad. Any thoughts?
Sigma squadron for dummies
I wouldn't call Phantoms the same as interceptors. The cloaking mechanics and the upgrades slots of crew and sensors make them a formidable ship. Yeah you could say they are a glass cannon but Phantoms are the best Agility tanks in the game. Interceptors are Glass cannons but you can have more of them because of their lower cost.
When I see Sigma I see them as say a 3rd ship filler that doesn't have enough points left to field echo or as a second phantom with echo. I still see the same build with AdvCloak, ReconSpec, and FireConSys.

Well here's the thing, you will be de cloaking first which means your only getting 2 D dice which adv cloak isn't really going to help all that much in my opinion. Yes you get a free cloak action from it freeing up space to take a diff action but as far as defensively it's not adding a lot. That's why I was thinking you keep them at range 3 to get there D to 3 dice.
yeah Phantoms tend to be better with higher PS (I guess that is why the lowest is 5 on Sigma) If you are worried about your defense you could swap the AdvCloak for Styg which gives you free evade and have 2 focus with recon specialists. Or you could try gunner and FCS for more firepower however the extra focus could come in handy when defending. On the other hand decloak for an evade and then do an evade action will give you two evade tokens so your gunner and FCS could do the damage while the Styg does the agility defense.

Sigma is 3.
Sigmas are strikers, flankers that need to be ignored to get serious damage in before they're blown to peices. This usually means cloaking right away, and waiting till the right moment to decloak and join the fray.
Alternatively, you can use one as bait, to lure the opponent into an easy kill, and have the rest of your force available to punish such a mistake. Unfortunately, this tactic is also difficult. Both tactics require that you fly well, judge distances and make safe ground appear dangerous or vice versa

thanks, I need to get some rest (a little hard when coughing your lungs up) Shadow is 5 Sigma is 3. Still those are high PS stats for generics considering most are 1 & 3 or 2 & 4.
Still for modifications I think AdvCloak goes better with high PS as they shoot first while Styg is better with low PS because of the free evade token which can be on top of another evade token as you action would be hard to block.
Edited by MarinealverOutside of being my personal favorite phantom, they're the imperial equivalent to a x wing, except you traded a hull for an attack die, and have a slightly better dial. Treat them like that and they're alot better imo. I like to take them with spa and recon spec, so the initial strike you have 2 focus and an evade token for defense, and you'll probably have one focus last till your shot. I like running 2 that way, with 40 points for a doom shuttle and backstabber. There's alot of killing potential with it and its got a very good spread of high priority targets.
I'm trying to find a way to use Sigma sq (or Shadow) as a low-cost flanker.
I would put Intelligence Agent and Stygian Particle Accelerator, nothing more.
Keep it cloaked at first, decloak if you spot an opportunity with Intelligence Agent. Otherwise, try to keep outside arcs and with plenty of decloak paths, always put a maneuver that you think might be good for an attack but can also be used to escape without decloaking.
Somehow the Sigma should decloak, hit (kill maybe) then run with cloak, turn around with hard turns, then join the fray once again.
This is still just ideas I'm throwing around, I haven't succeded in making this work yet. This would be much less straightforward then flying Echo (which is manageable once you visualize all the decloak paths and possibilities), and it would require a lot more forward planning.
Ya I was actually contemplating a naked sigma. Crazy? I'm just thinking that even if you add Stygium how much use will you really get out of it batting near the bottom of the order? Seems like points wasted. I might be more inclined to slap fcs tho since it's only 2 points and the TL stays til used.

I am along the same thought process to decloak when a good opportunity presents itself or stay at range.

Of course you should remember that Stygium Particle Accelerator allows a free evade action, it doesn't give a free evade token. So no double evade with it!

Yes exactly! As I mentioned I think just taking a hull upgrade or fcs would be all I would put on it. It would have the same stats as an xwing at that point uncloaked but with an extra attack die. Has anyone used a naked sigma phantom or one with hull upgrade to any effect?
I've tried one build trying to use two sigma's. So far no success.
But reading this post inspired me and I threw this together.
Soontir Fel
Push the limit
Sigma
Stygium Particle Accelerator
Recon specialist
Omnicron pilot
Engine upgrade
Night beast.
The idea is pair up the phantom with Fel, and they are your flanking force
The shuttle and Nightbeast are your ships you send towards your opponent.
Chances are likely they may go for the flankers first.
If so Fel will hopefully be the target, but he is hard to get in arcs, and can turtle up nice.
If that is the case you have a shuttle with Nightbeast that can pick away.
Another thought I just had would be downgrade Nightbeast to academy pilot and put hull upgrade on the Phantom
Of coarse you lose the Stygium Particle Accelerator, but you now basically have the same stats as an xwing, but better dial two focus instead of one, and hits a lot harder.
While still leaving you with two points
Another idea I just had
2x academy pilots
2x sigma's
Stygium Particle Accelerator
Omnicron pilot.

I like the HU on the sigma idea. How about HU sigma, doom shuttle and bounty hunter?
