Knave Squadron pilots much better than anticipated

By atr127, in X-Wing

i have seen very little about E-Wings and even less about the non-unique pilots, so i wondered if anyone else has had any luck with them, and how you use them.

last night i tried a new rebel list which included a basic Knave Squadron E-Wing, with Advanced Sensors and R2 Astromech (31 points). It performed really well in both games. being able to deal a lot of damage and survive as well.

i liked the PS1, as it meant i could block very well, and always be sure of getting to move unobstructed.

I really missed the boost action i'm used to when flying interceptors, but AS with an R2 means you can almost always get your action making you either very hard to hit, or almost certain to do decent damage.

my full list was:

  • Knave, AS, R2
  • Tarn, R7
  • Blue
  • Blue

thoughts?

Knaves don't have EPT.

Ninja'ed! Was just about to say that.

Also there's no way to put R2-D6 on a Knave Squadron Pilot to get the EPT slot.

E-wings are great ships but they are expensive and for good reason. Their stats and maneuverability is through the roof.

Now I have seen E-wings as damage sponges such as Shield Upgrade with R2-D2 so it can keep regenerating shields. I have even seen it used on a unique E-wing pilots with Darw Their Fire when squadroned up with Biggs in order to pull critical hits from Biggs and later regenerate them with R2-D2.

Also E-wings can dish out some damage with Torpedo slots and a sensor slot for FCS also the unique pilots are good at maximizing damage in a single turn. I have seen tank builds with Sensor jammer R2-D2 and Shield Upgrade.

The only real drawback is well their point cost and not so much a vulnerability but just to note their 2 hull. A lucky direct hit with a proton bomb can end it. (However I don't see that many proton bombs for some reason, I guess no one finds trying to drop a depth charge on a phantom fun.)
