Want to share your Star Wars Shapeways?

By patox, in X-Wing

Yes, they copied it from the Baudo yacht design (the first Baudo with that design was from 1997 "Pirates and Privateers". The EV Nova is from 2002)

Actually, I believe it was in 1990 in the first edition of Tramp Freighters. I'll have to check my copy when I get home.

Got this baby in frosted ultra detail from Gosric. It's from my favorite Star Wars movie. ; )e51_zps0aed3f07.jpg

Im very glad you like it.

Couldn't find it in your shop, is it still available?

Yes. I dont think anyone is going to send me a cease and desist for it *L* https://www.shapeways.com/model/1577774/eagle-5-starbago.html?li=aeTabs I dont have a good pic of the Avenger yet but there is this one which is 'ok' avenger_zps7e82a43b.jpg The new way they are doing renders on Shapeways also give a much closer vision of what the final product looks like as well tieavenger_zps7b405895.jpg

Thanks for posting them! It looks great. I'll be picking some up to torment my RPG group.

Im happy to adjust scale as well when feasible if you want something in a different size

Pictures of the Nebulon B. This time with the custom stand put together by my friend Silent Jim. The man is a genius when it comes to scratch-building. The Base is brass rod, wood disks and acrylic sheet. The attachment points on the model slide into the brass rod for a snug fit.

She is coming along quite nicely, and is large enough for the Rebel Transport to fly under, even with the stand lowered to give her a lower center of gravity, and make her more stable, I suspect the Tantive IV will fit under as well, but didn't have it with me to confirm.

**** SON.

The Asp looks stunning Gosric, can't wait to see it painted!

Thank you. Neither can i.

Meanwhile now i have glasses i can see enough to start painting. I am seriously out of practice but i think it came out decently. Now i have to work on my photography skills.

Mel, where is this thing from? Is it a KotOR ship or a Yavin era ship?

Edited by Corellian Corvette

Kotor. Its the Fury-class Imperial interceptor :)

This just came in today :)

Aww, its Kotor? But Im already saving my money for it!

Eh, I'll get it anyways, proxie it for a decimator.

Dangit mel, you have made me turn my back on the rebellion!

Its the unwanted child between the Millennium Falcon and a TIE Interceptor, so yeah, it will fit great as a Decimator proxy.

Hey mel, I was wondering, being an autocad/inventor user myself, would splitting it in half horizontally (like a clam shell) and making it in two pieces with a hollow interior (maybe some ribs to strengthen it) would make it cheaper?

The customer would need to glue it together, but theoretically it would use a lot less material and would it cost less then?

Or am I just spouting off a lot of nonsense?

The problem with that, at at least with my ships, is that my minis are already as hollow as possible, even the fighters when the hull shape makes it feasible. And making them in two parts, assuming you mean as two separate orders, would end up in most cases being more expensive.

Shapeways has a base cost for each material to Which is added the material cost. Two items ordered means two times the base cost . The advantages of doing them in two parts however would be for the material options, as the detail materials are not available for the larger ships. Or if you wanted to put lights or such inside which would logically enough be a lot easier with a ship in parts.

Oh wait That question was to Mel. Sorry *L*

As Gosric explained it. Shapeways charges by volume of material. If you splice the model you get the same volume. You even get more material because you have to create a bit more to help you glue the two pieces together. There is also an extra charge because Shapeways charges about 1,5$ for each individual model.

The only exception is when a model reaches a bounding box higher than 10.000 cm3. This means, the "max height" x "max thickness" x "max length" and doesnt matter the model is hollow or how dense it is. Thats why the Nebulon B is sliced in two parts, because if it was just one piece it would be around 450$

In the rest of the cases this doesnt apply.

Alright thanks. Didn't realize that you could just print the thing hollow! Herp Deep, new to printers. Good to know that they are hollow and efficient though!

Fury-class.... an ancient starfighter that is somehow aesthetically and technologically congruent with the current generation of Imperial starfighters. Archaeologists in Star Wars must be constantly perplexed.

I really love your stuff Gosric, I want to replace all my TIEs with TIE droid fighters and my Phantoms with Spectres..

Thank you. That is a lovely thing to hear

Those ships look lovely Mel. Is the Nebulon the same as the painted one a page back? or is it the bigger 2 part version?

That painted version is the smaller of the two.

I would like to see some "reasonable" stats for the wonderful stuff that is offered over shapeways.
