Im very glad you like it.

While these are very very cool I can't help wonder whether it's the brightest thing to be putting up commercially marketted models using an IP/licence FFG will have paid a packet for on their forums?

I mean they may have some deal going on with third party 'ship builders' but if you did this on a lot of games companies forums you'd have a C&D notice on you before you could take a paypal payment :)

It's not ships ffg sell though so they are not losing money, besides this is how it'll be in the future when 3D printers are something everyone owns.

Home printers are not there yet but in five years they'll be cheaper to buy and producing fine detail at a reasonable speed, ffg and other companies need to embrace the reality and make plans accordingly like selling official 3d models you can print at home along with the cards.

And anything that grows their game is a good thing trying to clamp down on it would just get a negative reaction and bad press remember how badly the gw chapterhouse law suit backfired on them?

Love the Preybird Gosric, it looks really menacing...

Indeed. Plus of course, when you're trying to build and develop a new system anything which captures a player's imagination and draws them into the game is a plus. As others have said, I doubt anyone who bought a Shapeways print would then not buy an FFG model (with official rules, tokens, dials, pilot cards etc) of the same ship. If fact,I'd suggest that anyone who is likely to buy a Shapeways model of a ship would DEFINITELY buy an official version, without a second's hesitation.

The Star Wars universe is a big place. There's a lot of fun stuff in there, and a lot of niche stuff as well which we'd probably never see if not for Mel and Gosric and the rest. It's great to see the work they put in, it appeals to me from a hobbyist's point of view and from the technological standpoint as well. Some Mel & Gosric's designs are really pushing the boundaries of what Shapeways can do (detail, size etc).

I'm delighted by FFG's live-and-let-live approach on this, as well as their friendly, open arms policy regarding keeping fans informed about future releases. It's certainly a breath of fresh air compared to the zero-tolerance approach of other companies, and really helps build anticipation and enthusiasm for the game.

Closet thing i have is this one which is based more closely on the Han Solo at Stars End Z-95 thtn the prototype X Wing version. I left it available since it is quite a bit different than the FFG one

I've been using one of your Zs as my stand-in for a Mara Jade pilot... configured as her ship was in the Thrawn and I, Jedi books (ion cannon replaces missiles).

So far I've picked up the Topo's Senator's Shuttle, Mel's Containers, Mel's Satellites and Mel's DX-9

I've put a couple coats on this baby:

Very tempted to get more, but I can't believe that I have a painting queue for a pre-painted miniatures game.

Still, I'm eyeing a couple YV-929's, a civilian Gozanti Cruiser (want to paint it up Black Sun style.) and a couple G1-M4-C Dunelizard fighter.

Does anyone know the size of the Dunelizard? There are sources that say it's 11m or 15m.

Looking good!

:)

Steelhelix: While the ship is cool, I just can't find it in myself to picture it in Star Wars. It doesn't quite have that mismatched industrial sci-fi look.

There's apparently confusion about what a Baudo looks like as there are two different designs from different source books. The other one looks much more industrial with sort of an Aliens (Nostromo/Sulaco) feel. Personally, I prefer this one. The flavor text for the ship is that it's a custom built yacht that Mirax got her hands on... similar in some ways I guess to how Lando got the Lady Luck.

Gosric, would you be able to post a picture of your TIE Avenger model? I've been thinking of picking up a three set. The lack of any photo of a printed one any where on the internet has kept me from doing so!

Thanks

That is pretty cool looking, but it isn't the Baudo I'm used too..

That has a real wicked look to it though..

Not to be a stickler, but could I bother you to cite your source on this viewpoint? Or for anyone reading to do so if they have said source? I mean, a lot of this stuff on Shapeways would be long gone if they didn't have this perspective I guess, but even so, I'm interested to hear more on what they think of this.

Awesome ships too everybody, I have about a half dozen I bought towards march, will be posting soon.

I will see what i can do. Im waiting for one myself that im going to paint but i think i have an image of it elsewhere. let me dig it up

Funny you'd say that. :)

Prior to the FFG release, I had bought TIE Defenders, TIE Phantoms, E-Wings, and Z-95s.

I pre-ordered them the minute I heard about the official ones! My shapeways ones were not painted by a pro (instead by me, sadly) so they will become battle damaged, or cloaking, or squad support with ion canons (Gosrics E-wings have that option), or more Scum variants.

Its all good.

To be honest im not a huge fan of either Baudo really. One looks like the Rising Star from BSG and the other looks like a weird version of a Musai from Gundam

Pictures of the Nebulon B. This time with the custom stand put together by my friend Silent Jim. The man is a genius when it comes to scratch-building. The Base is brass rod, wood disks and acrylic sheet. The attachment points on the model slide into the brass rod for a snug fit.

She is coming along quite nicely, and is large enough for the Rebel Transport to fly under, even with the stand lowered to give her a lower center of gravity, and make her more stable, I suspect the Tantive IV will fit under as well, but didn't have it with me to confirm.

Im very glad you like it.

Couldn't find it in your shop, is it still available?

What size is that Neb? 1/600? It looks gorgious!

Yes, they copied it from the Baudo yacht design (the first Baudo with that design was from 1997 "Pirates and Privateers". The EV Nova is from 2002)

I dont have a good pic of the Avenger yet but there is this one which is 'ok'

The new way they are doing renders on Shapeways also give a much closer vision of what the final product looks like as well

I'm so tempted by those avengers.
