Want to share your Star Wars Shapeways?

By patox, in X-Wing

So far I've picked up the Topo's Senator's Shuttle, Mel's Containers, Mel's Satellites and Mel's DX-9

I've put a couple coats on this baby:

Very tempted to get more, but I can't believe that I have a painting queue for a pre-painted miniatures game.

Still, I'm eyeing a couple YV-929's, a civilian Gozanti Cruiser (want to paint it up Black Sun style.) and a couple G1-M4-C Dunelizard fighter.

Does anyone know the size of the Dunelizard? There are sources that say it's 11m or 15m.

The Gozanti is very tempting. If I got it magnetisation would be in order for my 4 TIES.

Mel's Planetary Defenders. Will make a nice addition to my eventual Scum lists...

From these pics it looks like you got most (if not all) of the 3D printing "fuzziness" off... how?

I thought the same. Those models looks as smooth as a conventional cast miniature. Or something I would have scratch built. ;)

The Planetary Defenders were printed in the best quality available (Frosted Ultra Detail).

The print lines are visible on the unpainted model, but they're so fine that once painted it's all but invisible unless you're looking at a high res image or pick the model up and look at it very closely. In addition, the curved surfaces of a model tend to show print lines a little more than the flat surfaces.

Here's a couple of the work in progress pics so you can see what I mean:

The nekkid model:

Close up of the wing tip showing the print lines grading:

...again, this is a close up - that picture is MUCH larger than the part on the model itself, it really is barely noticeable.

I don't have a problem with the lines so much - Does the FUD not have a "fuzzy" texture? I know the WSF looks like the surface is felt.

That shuttle looks super-smooth.

Steelhelix: While the ship is cool, I just can't find it in myself to picture it in Star Wars. It doesn't quite have that mismatched industrial sci-fi look.

Im currently re-doing all my custom cards dials and tokens. To add more pilots to each ship and to add the new upgrades (and the scum and villainy). This cards were designed before the third wave :D

While these are very very cool I can't help wonder whether it's the brightest thing to be putting up commercially marketted models using an IP/licence FFG will have paid a packet for on their forums?

I mean they may have some deal going on with third party 'ship builders' but if you did this on a lot of games companies forums you'd have a C&D notice on you before you could take a paypal payment :)

"These aren't the ships you're looking for..."

All jokes aside, these are hardly the first shapeways ships to be shown here. FFG should look and see what they need to make.

I never sell a ship FFG is currently selling and I highly doubt anyone would not buy a new expansion pack just because they have one of my miniatures that doesnt have the official cards, was hand painted, had lower detail and is not accepted in tournaments...

But frankly I would love to hear FFG staff's opinion on this subject. They have never gotten in contact with me. And I know around a year ago (right before they were going to release the HWK) a guy that has some of my ships showed them to part of the development team and they thought they were cool (althought they said my HWK was oversized, which was true).

Ditto here. I finished my Phantom and Defender, announcing them the day before FFG announced the wave featuring them *L*.

Now of course i no longer sell them.

But since we are posting...My Preybird

Starwing

And the Civilian and Military versions of my Corellian Cutter/Transport

I want so many of these shapeways, dang it. Why do they need to look so good!

The arc 170 someone done made looks good but I would like a custom one with a little longer nose, like x-wing length. The nose looks kinda goofy being so short.

A headhunter done the old fashion style would look good with just the two oversized engines instead of the x-wing but not x-wing clone we currently have.

Closet thing i have is this one which is based more closely on the Han Solo at Stars End Z-95 thtn the prototype X Wing version. I left it available since it is quite a bit different than the FFG one

Really like the Z-95 S

There's an ARC-170 from Hasbro's Micro Vehicles that's pretty close to scale at 1/306

The ARC-170 is from Micro Vehicles. Not to be confused with Micro Machines.

I have one of mine but it is a different model than either Mel or FFG. There are a lot of E Wing variants floating around it seems

Thanks. I prefer it myself. The standard one was described with a forked tail which always struck me as a bit odd and not really right aesthetically. Good for a Yamato ship isnt the same as good for a Star Wars ship.
