That's how I usually start the game with Dash if the enemy's deployed in the opposite corner, he can be in the enemy deployment zone by turn 2.

As far as immersion, the large ships being faster than the snubfighters never bothered me, they're larger with therefore larger and more powerful engines. And besides, a large ship can't outspeed an A-Wing or Interceptor without an Engine Upgrade. And the Phantom is just cheating by getting a head start with it's cloaking device.

Total necro here, but the fastest pilot in the game is Sabine Wren. Fastest ship is the Shadowcaster, with Burnout Slam, can move equivalent of a straight 12 but can't attack. However, Sabine Wren in the Tie can move a Straight 10.5 with a Barrel Roll, Focus, and Evade. Equip Cloaking Device, Stygian Particle Accelerator, Kaanan Jarrus, and PtL. Decloak forward (free evade), free boost (PTL to focus), straight 5, Kaanan removes stress, Barrel Roll. Or, for more raw distance, decloak sideways, free boost 1-bank, straight 5, barrel roll. Haven't measured yet, but I believe it's the farthest displacement in the game. Plus, she can still attack with mods.

This needs to be redone as a lap around the mat.

Asteroid in each corner and ships tarting in the same spot.

Also aileron engine striker added in.

I wanted to run a similar scenario with two tables set up long-ways, and a thin (15 inches across) piece of cardboard/paper/whatever, bridging the gap between them. Both tables and the bridge are littered with asteroids, and players start with 1 ship on opposite ends, and 2 flankers on opposite ends of the bridge. The idea was to race from one end to the other without going off of any of the thin tables or bridges, or being killed by the flankers. Probably 75pt limit with some other limitations here and there to keep it, if not balanced, at least still fun. Player would win if they make it to the other side and back maybe?

We never got to play it so I didn't give it too much thought, I just liked the idea of the table edges being a bigger factor in a game (like the kessel run or a movie asteroid field), and a race element.

I think if it ailerons with the bank template then has a 3 bank the other way dialed in, it goes further forward than a 5 straight.

This is my control. Most players have a vague idea of how far an X-Wing with boost can travel. This is another way of saying it lost.

For purposes of this, she starts cloaked. After all, I'm trying to identify which ship is fastest in a single round, that round doesn't have to be the first one. Also, yes it's a terrible build to actually fly, but it's an interesting idea to demonstrate.

Tycho + Daredevil + Experimental Interface

Yes, he has another EPT slot. Unfortunately, if I put in Expert Handling, I don't have the actions to get Boost, Barrel Roll, AND Daredevil. If I don't and put in PTL, he doesn't have a third movement action. As for why he doesn't have EH and PTL instead, that's covered in the next one.

Soontir Fel + PTL

This is rather well known to be able to move fast and thus goes in the list. But how much faster is it than the rest? Does he win?

Dash Rendar + Engine Upgrade + PTL

The 2400 doesn't have a 5 forward maneuver, but it has a big base. A large craft with boost and barrel roll potential might do well.

Whisper + PTL + Engine Upgrade

Yes, a terrible built, but one potentially capable of moving great distances. She also starts cloaked.

Now, the poor X-Wing moves just over one range ruler in distance. Again, it's our control.

I was curious about Echo, since I saw two possible moves she could make. Excho decloaks forward bank two to start, then can either do a 3 hard or a 3 bank. It turns out that the 3 bank moves a bit further than the 3 hard. Moving a great distance, Echo moves well over 4 range bands.

Curiously Tycho and Soontir, using different maneuvers, end up neck and neck, with Tycho appearing to be a smidge further largely due to my sloppy template positioning. Still, this was the standard fastest distance possible for a long time, clocking it at just over 4 range bangs. Beat by Echo, but not by much.

Now, Dash Rendar moves four forward, boosts into a 1 bank, then barrel rolls. With the new barrel roll, he still manages to reach an incredible distance of just shy of 5 range bands. Wow.

Whisper, not to be outdone, shoots forward as fast as her craft can take her. However, everything she does it for naught, as she travels the same distance Dash does, and the two tie, neck and neck.

I'll admit, this was mostly for my own curiosity instead of as an article. It was a question I've been pondering for some time.

I didn't run all the ships of course. Some clearly can't keep up. Most of the unique pilots that have range based mechanics, like Fett and Tetran, don't have an impact on this. Others, like Lt. Tokyo Drift, don't have an EPT to capitalize on their ability. Some, like the YT-1300 can't take two movement actions without an external action. Did I miss one that can move further? Let me know.

You forgot the Lancer with Engine.. it DOES have a 5 forward.

I think the fastest is probably the shadow caster with burnout slam isnt it?

Ketsu / PTL / Engine Upgrade / Burnout slam

Move 5 forward. Burnout Slam for another 5, PTL to boost.

The better explanation is that Han's character really isn't that bright (although they played that down in the subsequent films). It's why he's a "shoot first, ask questions later" type of character, and the parsec comment was an error made by his character, not a mistake of the actual dialogue. When Obi-Wan subtly tilts his head and changes his expression at around 0:20 in the link, it's not because he's impressed by the Falcon's speed, it's because he's realizing that Han doesn't know what he's talking about.

Nope. It'll move you the same distance as the straights, just with a little lateral movement.

He was actually right. A 1 bank will move you further than a 1s. A 3 bank will go further than a 3 bank. Combine the two and you'll go further than a 5s
